Shankar currently studies with Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia in Mumbai, India. After graduating from New England Conservatory, he was awarded a grant by the Frank Huntington Beebe Fund to pursue his study of applying Hindustani music to the clarinet. While in India, he has performed at major venues in Mumbai, Chennai, and Pune, as well as the Taj Hotel in Hyderabad.
Shankar’s experience with classical western music includes performances in Boston at Symphony Hall, City Hall, and Jordan Hall, and the Fine Arts Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. At New England Conservatory, Shankar studied with Tom Martin of the Boston Symphony, sitarist Peter Row and percussionist Jerry Leake. While in school, both of Shankar’s ensembles, a classical woodwind quintet and an Indian Fusion group, were awarded “honors” status by the Conservatory, a recognition of excellence given to only a few groups each year.
Shankar has toured with the spiritual leader and renowned humanitarian “Amma” Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, performing with her bhajan ensemble in 12 major cities across the US, including Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, Washington DC, Boston, Toronto, and New York City. While on tour with Amma, he had the opportunity to perform with David Balakrishnan of the Turtle Island String Quartet and study with saxophonist George Brooks. Shankar recorded an album of his fusion compositions entitled Uplift, which was premiered on Amma’s 2009 US tour. Through benefit concerts and sales of the CD, he raised several thousand dollars, which was put towards a charity helping farmers in Southern India.

chaand ki pari hai koi …khwaab ya nazar aaya
husn ka farishta kaisa… mere rooba roo aaya
haule se bahaare jaise …aa gayee viraano main
panchiyo ki meethi boli….khul gayi taraano main
zindagi ko meri saath rang yu mil gaye hai
taare hazaaro naino main khil gaye
ore mere saathiyo…….oooooo
aankho se tu dil main aa gayee
anjaani see jo thee meri nazaro ko
ab woh .mann ko… bha gayee
tananananan nananana
chaandni khili tho dil ko. tera chehra yaad aaya
patto ki bageechoo aahat .tera hee khayal aaya
baago ki pavan mai aaj teri hee khushbue hai
zulfo jaise kaali chayee hai ye ghata
ore mere soniyo……oooo
jaane kaise kab ye baat ho gayee….
aankho se tu dil main aa gayee
anjaani see jo thee meri nazaro ko
ab woh mann ko bha gayee
nanannanan…nananananana…nananananan
The lyrics of Shankar Tucker's song Jaane Kaise talk about the unexpected nature of falling in love. The song marvels at how someone can enter your life out of nowhere and suddenly make it feel more vibrant and colorful. The song compares this feeling to a fairy or princess from the moon appearing in one's life as a dream or vision. The lyrics describe how this person is like an angel, speaking sweet nothings like a bird in a garden. The singer talks about how his life has now become full of color since meeting this person, with thousands of stars blooming in his eyes.
The second verse continues with this theme of the lover bringing light to the singer's life. The singer talks about how the scent of the beloved reminds him of a beautiful garden and how her hair puts a dark cloud in the sky like a black rose. The song expresses how the singer's life is now full of the beloved's essence and how her touch has made him feel alive. The singer concludes with how he doesn't know how it happened, but he fell in love with the person who was once unknown to him, and his eyes now convey the emotion of his heart.

It's been 9 years since this song was put out, I heard it again today. And I say this for sure, I haven't been able to come across a Hindi song that matches this level of perfection and clarity with which this song is made.
Every element has a speciality of their own.
Shankar Tucker and Shaswat Singh, you guys are such amazing artists, you both have come a great way.
Looking forward to hearing more promising music from you both, they are like a breath of fresh air in times of such meaningless songs, with a lack of substance.
Thank you once again.
