Mother Nature
Sheryl Crow Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Born a poor young country boy
Mother Nature's son
All day long I'm sitting
Singing songs for every one

Sit beside a mountain stream
See her waters rise
Listen to the pretty
Sound of music as she flies
Doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo

Find me in my field of grass
Mother Nature's Son
Swaying daisies sing
A lazy song beneath the sun
Tu tu, yeah yeah yeah

Ooo

Ooo
Mother Nature's Son

Overall Meaning

The song ‘Mother Nature’s Son’ by Sheryl Crow is a cover of the original song by The Beatles. The lyrics are a story of a simple and contented life of a poor young country boy who is also described as the son of mother nature. The lines “Born a poor young country boy, Mother Nature’s son” are a mark of the young boy’s humble beginnings and his connection to nature that he cherishes all his life.

The boy spends his days outdoors, singing songs for everyone who cares to listen to him. The line “All day long, I'm sitting, singing songs for everyone” highlights the boy’s love for music and nature, which he shares with others. The boy’s unending admiration for nature is further illustrated in the lines “Sit beside a mountain stream, See her waters rise, Listen to the pretty sound of music as she flies,” which expresses the peacefulness and beauty of nature.

Further on in the song, the boy finds solace in his field of grass, where he is surrounded by nature’s creations. He is at ease, enjoying the lazy song of the swaying daisies beneath the sun. Nature has become the boy’s home where he feels belonged and comfortable. The song describes the joys and pleasures of life that can be found in nature, and how one can live a contented life if they learn to find happiness in simple things.

Sheryl did an awesome cover on this classic Beatles tune.

Best to listen with headphones, really nice bass. Fun relaxed version of a great song, it was really appropriate for the movie. John Denver's cover is still my favorite; one of the greatest guitar pickers ever.

This is a beautiful rendition of this song. Those who are commenting negatively on this cover obviously do not understand the beauty in it. Thank goodness people like Sheryl Crow keep the Beatles music alive
