Early years
Dangond grew up back and forward between his birthplace Urumita and Valledupar, but mostly in this last one, where his parents moved when he was just a year old to Valledupar due to financial hardships. As a curiosity Jorge Oñate was his Godparent. In Valledupar his parents enrolled him in the Jardín Nacional nursery school, later attended middle school at the Colegio Colombo-Ingles and high school at the Colegio Britanico, finally graduated from the Liceo del Caribe high school. During his Childhood Dangond also participated in many vallenato children festivals supported by his parents. specially his father, and had the opportunity at the age of 13 to record a song written by vallenato composer Octavio Daza.

Penando vuelvo a reír
Si la muerte fuera vida
Quiero morirme por ti (bis)
Si lo malo fuera bueno
Y lo feo fuera bonito
En vez de decir te quiero
Yo te odiara otro poquito
II
Y no importa si me muero
Resucitare por ti (bis)
Si lo malo fuera bueno
Y lo feo fuera bonito
En vez de decir te quiero
Yo te odiaría otro poquito
The lyrics to Silvestre Dangond's song Si lo malo fuera bueno (If Bad Were Good) describe a hypothetical scenario in which negative aspects in life turn into positive ones. The song's main theme is love, and the lyrics convey the idea that if everything that was bad became good, and everything that was ugly became beautiful, the singer would not say “I love you", but instead would hate the person a little bit more. This paradoxical statement is an attempt to convey the complexity of love, which is not always rational nor simple.
The lyrics also touch on the notion of time and how it can make feelings grow stronger. When the singer is away from his beloved, he feels an increase in pain, and instead of crying, he chooses to laugh at the situation. The idea of paradox continues with the notion that the night could be day so that his wounds could sleep, and his sorrow could become his joy.
In the second part of the song, the singer once again wishes for opposite scenarios to happen, where white is black, and the moon is the sun. He dreams of helping his loved one overcome her pain, wishing he could say "I love you" with all his heart. He alludes to the idea that he is willing to sacrifice his own happiness and existence for the well-being of his loved one. The last verse of the song reiterates the previous idea that if he were to die, he would come back to life for his loved one.
Overall, Si lo malo fuera bueno is a song that reflects the idea that love is a complex emotion that defies logic and reason, and that paradoxical situations are not impossible to understand.
