Kopmajer grew up in a family of musicians and began singing in her father's band when she was 12. At the same time she studied piano, though singing remained her first love. Early on, she entered and won various talent contests and even made appearances on television in her native country, Austria. As a young performer, she twice toured the Netherlands with the “Euro Big Band” and later appeared in several international jazz festivals.
Influenced by some of the great American vocalists like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jon Hendricks, Kopmajer has developed into a true jazz singer who uses a wide variety of rhythms and excels in her very individual style of scatting.
Kopmajer received her Masters Degree from the University for Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria where she had the opportunity to work with such jazz luminaries as Mark Murphy, Sheila Jordan, Michele Hendricks, Jay Clayton, and the New York Voices.

Lately
Simone Kopmajer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With no vivid reason here to find
Yet the thought of losing you's been hanging 'round my mind
Far more frequently you're wearing perfume
With you say no special place to go
But when I ask will you be coming back soon
You don't know, never know
Well, I'm a man of many wishes
But what I really feel my eyes won't let me hide
Cause they always start to cry
Cause this time could mean goodbye
Lately I've been staring in the mirror
Very slowly picking me apart
Trying to tell myself I have no reason with your heart
Just the other night while you were sleeping
I vaguely heard you whisper someone's name
But when I ask you of the thoughts your keeping
You just say nothing's changed
Well, I'm a man of many wishes
I hope my premonition misses
But what I really feel my eyes won't let me hide
Cause they always start to cry
Cause this time could mean goodbye, goodbye
Oh, I'm a man of many wishes
I hope my premonition misses
But what I really feel my eyes won't let me hide
Cause they always start to cry
Cause this time could mean goodbye
Simone Kopmajer's song "Lately" is a poignant ballad that explores the singer's inner turmoil about a relationship that seems to be on the edge of falling apart. The opening lines set the tone for the song, as the singer confesses to having a strange feeling of impending loss, even though there seems to be no clear reason for it. The imagery of losing someone is powerful, and the listener can feel the weight of the singer's emotions as they struggle to make sense of what's happening.
Throughout the song, the singer reflects on the little things that have been happening in their relationship that suggest that something is amiss. For example, they note that the other person has been wearing perfume more frequently, even when there's nowhere special to go. When they ask if the person will be coming back soon, there's no clear answer, which only adds to the singer's anxiety. The repetition of the phrase "you don't know, never know" underscores the uncertainty that the singer feels.
The chorus is where the emotions of the song truly come to the fore. The singer admits that they're a "man of many wishes," hoping against hope that their premonitions of loss are wrong. However, they know deep down that their eyes won't let them hide their true feelings, and that this time could truly mean goodbye. The repetition of the chorus throughout the song only reinforces the sense of helplessness that the singer feels.

Sa lèvre entrouverte semble palpiter comme une belle sirène qui se pose entre les bras d'un songe qui semble dormir
Mon âme s'évapore Mon oeil est voilé
Un jour pur inonde cette voix extraordinaire
J'entends les astres d'or chanter
Sa tête mollement penchée sur sa poitrine
Ses longs cils
Retombant sur son oeil endormi
Son doigt étendu montrant le ciel
Doux regard de la naissance aurore.
Elle dissipe les ombres
On eut dit Vénus
Comme un astre bercé dans un ciel sans nuage .
J'aime à voir briller Dans les flots briller sa chaste image.
