Kopmajer grew up in a family of musicians and began singing in her father's band when she was 12. At the same time she studied piano, though singing remained her first love. Early on, she entered and won various talent contests and even made appearances on television in her native country, Austria. As a young performer, she twice toured the Netherlands with the “Euro Big Band” and later appeared in several international jazz festivals.
Influenced by some of the great American vocalists like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jon Hendricks, Kopmajer has developed into a true jazz singer who uses a wide variety of rhythms and excels in her very individual style of scatting.
Kopmajer received her Masters Degree from the University for Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria where she had the opportunity to work with such jazz luminaries as Mark Murphy, Sheila Jordan, Michele Hendricks, Jay Clayton, and the New York Voices.

Sleepwalk
Simone Kopmajer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hmm
I sleepwalk, instead of dreaming
I sleep walk, ′cause I lost you
And now, what am I to do?
Can't believe that we′re through
Oh-yeah
I sleep talk, 'cause I miss you
I sleep talk
While the memory of you
Lingers like a song
Darling, I was so wrong
The night fills my lonely place
I see your face
Spinning through my brain
And though, I miss you so
I still love you
And it drives me insane
Sleepwalk, every night
I just sleepwalk
And when you walk inside the door
I will sleepwalk no more
Yeah, come on!
The night fills my lonely place
I see your face
Spinning through my brain
And though I miss you so
I still love you
And it drives me insane
Sleepwalk, every night
I just sleepwalk
And when you walk inside the door
I will sleepwalk no more
Oh-yeah
I will sleepwalk no more
Sleepwalk no more
Sleep, sleep, papa do we?
Simone Kopmajer's song, Sleepwalk, talks about the singer's feelings of loneliness and heartbreak after losing someone they loved. The lyrics suggest that rather than dreaming, the singer sleepwalks because they miss the person they have lost so much. The memory of the loved one lingers like a song in the singer's thoughts, and they can't get over the fact that they are no longer together. The night and the loneliness fill their thoughts and drive them insane. However, the song ends on a hopeful note when the singer states that when the person they love walks back into their life, they will no longer sleepwalk. This suggests that the singer is hopeful for a second chance and that being reunited with the person they love will bring them out of the darkness.
The song's lyrics are quite simple but effective in portraying the emotions of heartbreak and the desire to be reunited with a loved one. The use of the word "sleepwalk" as a metaphor for feeling lost and detached from reality is cleverly done. Additionally, the line "the night fills my lonely place" is a perfect description of the feeling of loneliness and how it seems to engulf a person's being.
