LAMB
Skid Row Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I have been here for so long
I've carried all the weight
'Til something pulls me underneath the tide Climb to where the air is thin
So I can breathe again
Still it makes me wonder deep inside

Nothin's free
No one bleeds
We're all machines

Shadows of your sins are following you
When it sucks you in, it's swallowing you
King of the mountain that's what I am
Everybody's someone else's sacrificial lamb

Space between the world and me
Defying gravity
'Til something pulls me closer to the ground
Drink the chemicals we spill
Our eye is on the kill
While hell is freezing over, over

Nothin's free
No one bleeds
We're all machines

Shadows of your sins are following you
When it sucks you in, it's swallowing you
King of the mountain that's what I am
Everybody's someone else's sacrificial lamb

Shadows of your sins are following you
When it sucks you in, it's swallowing you
King of the mountain that's what I am
Everybody's someone else's sacrificial

Shadows of your sins are following you
When it sucks you in, it's swallowing you
King of the mountain that's what I am
Everybody's someone else's sacrificial lamb

Lamb!
Oh!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Skid Row's song "Lamb" convey a sense of isolation and burden. The singer of the song is exhausted from carrying the weight of their existence for so long, and longs for escape. The imagery of being pulled underneath the tide and being pulled closer to the ground creates a sense of suffocation and hopelessness. The chorus speaks to the idea that we are all caught up in a larger system, machines that must run and function regardless of our individual suffering. The line "nothin's free, no one bleeds, we're all machines" seems to suggest that life is a transactional experience and we must endure the costs to maintain the system.

The second verse introduces the idea of chemical consumption and the pursuit of power or success. Eyeing the kill, the singer may be participating in the system in order to gain something for themselves, but at what cost? The chorus repeats, emphasizing the idea that we are all sacrificial lambs, pawns in a game we cannot control. The song ends with a powerful cry, almost defiant, as if the singer is trying to reject their fate as a sacrificial lamb but ultimately, they too succumb to the inevitability of it all, screaming "Lamb!" in pure frustration.
