Down for the Ride
Slaves Lyrics

But I could never find the way that it worked
When you spoke it came clear
it was easy to hear
Been so long since I sat down and listened
To myself andor anyone else
I've been playing along even when it felt wrong
So I hung it back up on the shelf
Taking over feeling at home with you
Moving forward learn to let go
It's that look in your eyes that says
baby I'm down for the ride,
baby I'm down for the ride
(for the ride)
baby I'm down
(for the ride)
baby I'm down
(for the ride)
baby I'm down
(for the ride)
baby I'm down
I never thought I could get any better
And my past only made me feel worse
I remember you said it was all in my head
and I need to forgive myself first
Now I know that I'm not without purpose
And you know that I'm not too far gone
But I hate that try to make up wasted time
And I let it all go on too long
Taking over feeling at home with you
Moving forward learn to let go
It's that look in your eyes that says
baby I'm down for the ride,
baby I'm down for the ride
(for the ride)
baby I'm down
(for the ride)
baby I'm down
(for the ride)
baby I'm down
(for the ride)
baby I'm down
Somebody pray for me
I couldn't take it if you were to leave
Somebody pray for me
I couldn't take it if you were to leave
Somebody pray for me
I couldn't take it if you were to leave
Somebody pray for me
I couldn't take it if you were to leave
Taking over feeling at home
Moving forward learn to let go
It's that look in your eye that says
baby I'm down for the ride,
down for the ride
( for the ride) ,
down for the ride
(for the ride )
baby I'm down for the ride
Somebody pray for me
I couldn't take it if you were to leave
Somebody pray for me
I couldn't take it if you were to leave
The lyrics to "Down for the Ride" by Slaves depict a powerful narrative of personal growth and self-discovery within the context of a relationship. The singer expresses the feeling of having a song in their head before meeting the other person but struggling to make sense of it until they encounter this individual. Through this relationship, the singer realizes the importance of truly listening, both to themselves and to others, acknowledging that they have been ignoring their inner voice for too long.
The lyrics touch on themes of introspection and vulnerability, as the singer reflects on their past struggles and insecurities. The other person in the relationship becomes a source of strength and support, helping the singer to believe in their own worth and let go of self-doubt. The repeated refrain of "baby I'm down for the ride" signifies a willingness to embrace the uncertainties and challenges of life with this person by their side.
The line "I never thought I could get any better, and my past only made me feel worse" conveys a sense of self-limiting beliefs and the damaging impact of past experiences on the singer's self-esteem. The other person encourages them to forgive themselves and move forward, showing that they are capable of growth and change. The sense of gratitude and relief in the plea "Somebody pray for me, I couldn't take it if you were to leave" highlights the fear of losing this newfound sense of purpose and connection.
Overall, "Down for the Ride" is a poignant exploration of the transformative power of love and support in overcoming personal obstacles and finding strength in vulnerability. The lyrics capture the essence of a meaningful relationship that empowers individuals to confront their demons, embrace their imperfections, and journey towards self-acceptance and growth.

I had a song in my head when I met you
I had dreams and aspirations before I met you
But I could never find the way that it worked
I couldn't figure out how to make those dreams a reality
When you spoke it came clear
When you talked, everything made sense
it was easy to hear
Your words were easy to understand
But I didn't need half of those words
But I didn't need all that explanation
Been so long since I sat down and listened
I haven't taken the time to really listen
To myself andor anyone else
To myself or to anyone else
I've been playing along even when it felt wrong
I've been going through the motions even when it didn't feel right
So I hung it back up on the shelf
So I put those feelings aside
Taking over feeling at home with you
Finding comfort and belonging with you
Moving forward learn to let go
Moving on and learning to release the past
It's that look in your eyes that says
It's the way you look at me that shows
baby I'm down for the ride
That you're supportive and ready to go on this journey
I never thought I could get any better
I never believed I could improve
And my past only made me feel worse
And my past experiences only brought me down
I remember you said it was all in my head
I remember you told me it was my mindset
and I need to forgive myself first
And that I need to forgive myself before anything else
Now I know that I'm not without purpose
Now I understand that I have a reason for being here
And you know that I'm not too far gone
And you know that I'm not beyond help
But I hate that try to make up wasted time
But I regret trying to make up for lost time
And I let it all go on too long
And I've let this situation drag on for too long
Somebody pray for me
Please pray for me
I couldn't take it if you were to leave
I couldn't bear it if you were to go

4.03 and 4.13 blows me away,
This song is so good it's hard to listen to sometimes...
Does other people get that ?
Not saying I dislike it in any way at all..
But it brings up so much emotion,
It's amazing.
I love jonny, but also am not sure haha..
I've met him once, he and the band ended up needing somewhere to stay in Bristol England,
It was amazing. The whole night..
Hes very wholesome and extremely quiet,
The other guys in the band and the manager at the time was especially sound to chill will..
It would make my whole year and years after that if jonny came back,
Can you imagine a come back of slaves with jonny, not saying they are bad without him,
I just think it would be crazy good..
Peace to everyone.

3:55 is straight chills. Dude sings with such passion in every song. I know struggling with demons so I can level with him for sure! You can't tell it in his music...its a fight that never stops but there is light at the end of the tunnel! Keep moving forward!

One of my favorite songs. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. When you hit 3 minutes and 50 seconds, it's like finally riding down from the peak of a rollercoaster. Like Itachi telling Sasuke he'll love his little brother no matter what he does, right before disappearing. Like Eri taking the leap to let deku save her. I guess I could also compare it to that moment right before lips lightly brush against yours with a first kiss. Iol. It's just pure awesomeness.
