I Know a Lot of Artists
Slaves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know I see this all the time
I see the trouble in your eyes
Trouble that money can′t fix
And you still dig your ditch

I usually fall for that same old cycle
You see it in white and black
And I'm in the middle

Well, I don′t want the same
Maybe I should explain
I've been through this before
Get it all off your chest
No need to pretend that you won't come undone
Come undone

You used to tell me everyday
You know exactly how I get
That′s right, I know how you get
That′s why I'm walking away
I′ve learned from this
Broken down, rebuilt from it
You can say you're different
But it′s clear you're still the same

I usually fall for that same old cycle
You see it in white and black
And I′m in the middle

Well, I don't want the same
Maybe I should explain
I've been through this before
Get it all off your chest
No need to pretend that you won′t come undone
Come undone

I′ve learned from this
Broken down, rebuilt from it
You can say you're different
But it′s clear you're still the same

Sleep in the bed that you made
I know that someone will save ya
They′re gonna see all your lies
Ain't no cryin′ tonight
It's gonna catch up right where I know it's gonna hurt you most

Well, I don′t want the same
Maybe I should explain
I′ve been through this before
Get it all off your chest
No need to pretend that you won't come undone
Coming undone

Are you coming undone?
Are you coming undone?
Are you coming undone?

Oh, coming undone
Coming undone

Overall Meaning

In "I Know a Lot of Artists" by Slaves, the singer seems to be addressing someone they used to be close with. The line "I see the trouble in your eyes" suggests that this other person is going through a difficult time, and the singer is aware that money can't fix their problems. The line "You still dig your ditch" implies that this person is making their own problems worse, or that they are unwilling to seek help.

The singer then goes on to say that they have been through this before and have learned from it. They suggest that the other person is still stuck in the same cycle, and that they themselves don't want to fall back into that pattern. The line "Sleep in the bed that you made" suggests that this person will have to face the consequences of their actions eventually, and the singer won't be there to save them.

Overall, the song seems to be about breaking free from toxic relationships or patterns of behavior. The singer is acknowledging that they have been caught up in this cycle before, but they are determined to move on and not let it happen again.

And he's only 5' 5". He's so short, yet he's so much a POWERHOUSE of a singer.

I heard this song playing in my gym a couple of days ago and I’ve been listening to their album on repeat since then. I’m not a huge fan of rock music, but Beautiful Death is honestly the only rock album I can listen to from start to finish. SO FUCKING GOOD!!!!!

@ivanlp4ever
