Patience Is The Virtue
Slaves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Never done it the way I should
So impatient, misunderstood
I′ve always let a girl dictate my feelings, yeah
Too distracted, too direct
Too numb, so I neglect
The things I should protect
I'm ready for what is next
I′ve made mistakes, you've made a judgment
Focused on a life of substance
I'm tired of waiting, I know I need to face it
I′m building, I′m zoned in
I'll never be complacent

I′m on the way up, I need to be patient
Patient like I've never been
Nothing can hold me, I need to be patient
Patient like I′ve never been

They say hurry up and wait, haha
Hurry up and wait, eyes on the gold
And every time I see the gold, I froze
Best cards in the fucking deck, but I fold
It's like I′m stuck in a place that I can't call home
And I ain't circling the block no more
Why do I do this to myself over and over again?

I′m on the way up, I need to be patient
Patient like I′ve never been
Nothing can hold me, I need to be patient
Patient like I've never been
I′m on the way up, I need to be patient
Patient like I've never been
Nothing can hold me, I need to be patient
Patient like I′ve never been

And I can almost touch the sky
Keep my head down, it's my time
Not feeling done asking why
Keep my head down, it′s my time
I'm ready for what is next

I'm on the way up, I need to be patient
Patient like I′ve never been
Nothing can hold me, I need to be patient
Patient like I′ve never been
I'm on the way up, I need to be patient
Patient like I′ve never been

Nothing can hold me, I need to be patient
Patient like I've never been

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Patience Is The Virtue" by Slaves revolve around the theme of personal growth, self-realization and patience. The song is about the singer's realization that he has been too impatient and impulsive in his life, especially in his relationships with women. He acknowledges his mistakes and reveals that he has always allowed his love interests to dictate his emotions and actions, resulting in neglecting the things he values and protecting. However, he is ready to change and build a better version of himself, focused on a life of substance, and not complacent.

The song's opening lines, "Never done it the way I should, so impatient, misunderstood," suggest the singer has been grappling with impatience and a lack of understanding from others because of his impulsiveness. When he says he has always let a girl dictate his feelings, it seems to imply that he had not taken the time to evaluate his emotions before acting on them. He also admits to being too direct and numb, which has caused him to neglect important matters. However, he is clear in his resolve to do better, stating that he is now "ready for what is next" and will put in the necessary effort to ensure that he doesn't repeat his past mistakes.

The chorus, "I'm on the way up, I need to be patient, Patient like I've never been, Nothing can hold me, I need to be patient, Patient like I've never been," encapsulates the song's main message. The singer acknowledges the work he still has to do in building a better life, but he is resolute that he will not allow impatience to derail him.

Overall, "Patience Is The Virtue" is a motivational anthem that encourages the listener to be patient and embrace the journey of growth.

Beautiful Death was 2018's AOTY for sure. Previous two albums had one or two good songs each, but this album is fantastic.

scott reagan no need to apologise brother! We all have our own personal tastes and there is no need to be sorry for that! I personally enjoy Through Art much much more! Just like some like DGD and others do not. It's all about preference ;)

peruzfinest07 Sorry mate. Through Art was awful. Rushed and shitty sounding. Every song sounds like the one before it. They stated they were on a time crunch and you can fucking tell. Routine Breathing was miles ahead of Through Art.

vinny best part of that song is 2:00-2:45!! I love when Jonny hits those long notes!!

Jonny always improves every album. So pumped for this album!

Not really.
"Routine Breathing" was abysmal in comparison to TAWAE and Beautiful Death
