Slipknot is well known for its attention-grabbing image, aggressive style of music, and energetic and chaotic live shows. The band rapidly rose to fame following the release of their eponymous debut album in 1999. The 2001 follow-up album, Iowa, although darker in tone, made the band more popular. After a brief hiatus, Slipknot returned in 2004 with Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, before going on another hiatus and returning in 2008 with its fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. After another long hiatus, Slipknot released its fifth studio album, .5: The Gray Chapter, in 2014. Their sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind, was released on August 9, 2019. Their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, was released on September 30, 2022. The band has released two live albums titled 9.0: Live and Day of the Gusano: Live in Mexico, a compilation album titled Antennas to Hell, and five live DVDs. The band has sold 30 million records worldwide.

Rise, we're gonna need another witness just like you
Surprise, your inadmissible testimony might be true
You better pull the hood (get it off, get it off)
You'll be lucky to tear the place down
Then you're gone for good (set it off, set it off)
Scorched earth is your favorite sacred ground
But you're never gonna like what's left of me
When the carcass is down and the predator's around
You gotta play dead if you wanna run free
You're such a tortured soul but I don't wanna hear about it
You say you're not involved but all you do is talk about it
Go bless the shit, where you belong
For your own information
For your own entertainment
This hell comes to you live
And if you need some assistance
A little time to convince it
Dial in your sordid hive mind
Crawl across the broken glass of every window you're pressed against
And scrawl your little bits of hate, your little digital graffiti breaks
So don't close your eyes (get it off, get it off)
When you're pulling your messages down
Don't wanna go to sleep (set it off, set it off)
You'll be lucky if they take you without making a sound
What a guy, god I hope you fuckin die and your sympathies don't mean a shit to me
When the confidence goes and the predator knows
You better be dead if you wanna be free
You're such a tortured soul but I don't wanna hear about it
You say you're not involved but all you do is talk about it
One more thing and don't forget to burn
For your own information
For your own entertainment
This hell comes to you live
And if you need some assistance
A little time to convince it
Dial in the sordid
Protect the hive mind
Hold on there's a river around you
Swim hard for the other side
Don't drown to spite your critics
Just blow a kiss goodbye
Hold on there's a river around you
Swim hard for the other side
Don't drown to spite your critics
Just blow a kiss goodbye, yeah
Protect the hive, yeah

The lyrics of Slipknot's song Hive Mind depict a dark and aggressive narrative, exploring themes of isolation, manipulation, and rebellion against societal expectations.
The opening lines of the song convey a sense of urgency and the need for support. The singer is calling for another witness, someone who can testify or validate their experiences. They express that the testimony might be true, implying that they have encountered something shocking or disturbing. However, they also warn the listener to be cautious and prepare themselves for what lies ahead. The mention of tearing down the place and playing dead to run free suggests the need to confront and overcome oppressive circumstances.
The next stanza expresses frustration and skepticism towards someone who constantly expresses their torment but refuses to take action. The singer dismisses their claims of not being involved, as their constant talk about their problems suggests otherwise. The line "Go bless the shit, where you belong" can be interpreted as a sarcastic remark towards the person's self-pity and inaction.
The chorus adds another layer to the lyrics by presenting a larger context. The hell referenced is portrayed as live entertainment, suggesting a metaphorical dystopian society where suffering and chaos are consumed for amusement. The singer offers assistance to anyone who wants to escape this hell but warns that it requires convincing and tapping into a collective consciousness or "sordid hive mind."
The following stanza reinforces the rebellious attitude and defiance against the oppressive forces. The singer encourages the listener to speak out and leave their mark, even if it means facing criticism and backlash. The insistence on not closing one's eyes and not sleeping implies the need to stay vigilant and active in the face of adversity. The line "god I hope you fuckin die" may be directed towards an individual who represents the oppressive system, expressing a desire for their downfall.
The repetition of the chorus further emphasizes the concept of a dystopian society where the hive mind needs protection. The lyrics suggest that the only way to survive and transcend this oppressive environment is to swim against the current, not letting criticism or negativity drown you. The mention of blowing a kiss goodbye implies a sense of liberation and moving on from toxic influences.
In conclusion, Slipknot's song Hive Mind provides a dark and aggressive commentary on society, depicting the struggle to resist conformity, confront oppression, and find freedom. The lyrics explore themes of isolation, manipulation, rebellion, and the search for personal identity within a dystopian landscape.

Most will play this alone in their car or headphones, and dream of seeing it live with others that come together.
They really captured the essence of current reality, through good tunes.
Style of writing also creates many ways to interpret their tunes. This one here is absolutely fire. Every one of their albums has one or six of these types of tunes, and this is one.
I met a person that said he was kinda scared at night when he went to Iowa, knowing slipknot came from there. I was like- what? It music that makes your booty move. Iowa people are as kind as you can get, smart and tough. Taught many virtues that takes energy and time as a community no matter what the barriers are. Good state.
Anywho, it’s just rock and roll but I like it, like it, yes we do.

When Slipknot stretches their more "experimental" muscles in regards to their song writing like on "Acidic" or "Medicine For The Dead", it can be hit or miss, but when Slipknot is focused on just BEING Slipknot on tracks like "The Dying Song", "Chapeltown Rag", "Hive Mind", or "Warranty", it is the most ass-kicking metal on the planet, and there isn't anything I'd rather listen to.

@Phobix The Thing I love the experimental vibes of WANYK. Particularly, the John Carpenter-ish, Spiders 👍

@Ye Ye On my first listen of the album, "De Sade" was actually my favorite. I almost wish the placing of "De Sade" and "H377" were reversed in the tracklisting and the two tracks were both one big song.
