Slipknot is well known for its attention-grabbing image, aggressive style of music, and energetic and chaotic live shows. The band rapidly rose to fame following the release of their eponymous debut album in 1999. The 2001 follow-up album, Iowa, although darker in tone, made the band more popular. After a brief hiatus, Slipknot returned in 2004 with Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, before going on another hiatus and returning in 2008 with its fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. After another long hiatus, Slipknot released its fifth studio album, .5: The Gray Chapter, in 2014. Their sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind, was released on August 9, 2019. Their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, was released on September 30, 2022. The band has released two live albums titled 9.0: Live and Day of the Gusano: Live in Mexico, a compilation album titled Antennas to Hell, and five live DVDs. The band has sold 30 million records worldwide.

Past just saving, this is like escaping
Running wild in the middle of weeds
Eyes can't see me, careful with your breathing
Get away or they get to feed
Strength's not enough, be defiant
You're looking for a reason to suffer, you'll find it
Your energy won't keep you from getting exhausted and purge it
You don't know me
You can't hold me
This is beginning
You are an ending
They'll smother their own just to feel you
They'll get you alone just to steal you
They'll eat you alive just to kill you
Nobody will ever have you
You used to be something special
Now you're nothing new
Vultures salivate, poison to exterminate
It's the dawn of the Renaissance
Emancipation, cattle on displacement, you want
To reason but there is no response
I won't allow this to happen
Another situation I feel like I'm trapped in
Nothing is my business and business is gone
I wish you all could fuck off
And go back to hell where you belong
You don't know me
You can't hold me
This is beginning
You are an ending
They'll smother their own just to feel you
They'll get you alone just to steal you
They'll eat you alive just to kill you
Nobody will ever have you
You used to be something special
Now you're nothing new
Plague, don't panic
Don't believe the riddle that confuses you
Bitch, so manic
I can see the light that exposes you
So dramatic, now it's all empathetic means
The bigger the mouth that I can eat you with
Force of habit, God you reek of your havoc
But consider the sources you've been tampering with!
They'll smother their own just to feel you
They'll get you alone just to steal you
They'll eat you alive just to kill you
Nobody will ever have you
You used to be something special
Now you're nothing
They'll smother their own just to feel you
They'll get you alone just to steal you
They'll eat you alive just to kill you
Nobody will ever have you
You used to be something special
Now you're nothing new
Now you're nothing
Now you're nothing
Now you're nothing new
New
New
Yeah
The lyrics to Slipknot's song "Red Flag" describe a feeling of frustration and betrayal, as the singer feels like they are being hunted and exploited by those around them. The imagery of "running wild in the middle of weeds" highlights a sense of being pursued, while the line "Strength's not enough, be defiant" indicates a call to resist those who would harm or control them. The repeated refrain - "They'll smother their own just to feel you / They'll get you alone just to steal you / They'll eat you alive just to kill you" - underscores a sense of danger and threat, as well as the singer's determination to resist being consumed by the people who surround them.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of claustrophobia and desperation, reflected in lines like "I feel like I'm trapped in / Nothing is my business and business is gone." The singer seems to be searching for a way to break free from the toxic environment they are in, and the repeated refrain "Now you're nothing new" suggests a sense of weariness and resignation - as if the singer has been through this cycle of abuse and betrayal before.
Ultimately, the lyrics to "Red Flag" paint a picture of a person who feels hunted and trapped by people who would exploit them, and who is struggling to break free from that cycle of exploitation and abuse.

Dude Corey’s lyrics are bar none! In my honest opinion he’s the best songwriter of my lifetime, his pen never runs out of ink despite being at it for 20+ yrs, and his vocal range is out of this world probably due to that massive tree trunk he calls a neck lol Corey is the man!!!!!
