Upon recording a few songs at a local studio, she decided to send the demos to three record companies, with no special expectations. Soon Sony Sweden gave her a phone call and offered her a record deal. At this stage, she had never played in front of an audience. Sophie started to record her self-titled debut album in 1995. The album was produced and arranged by Lars Halapi, a long time collaborator who has subsequently worked on all her material.
She was awarded a Grammy at the Swedish Grammy awards as Best Newcomer in 1995, she was also nominated for Best Female Pop Singer. Her album managed Gold status both in Sweden and Japan. After promoting her debut in the US, she finally started to work on her new album in the Autumn of 1997. This second effort entitled Precious Burden came the following year. Since the turbulence of the first album release, Zelmani has started saying no to interviews and only embarks on tour for short periods of time.
The third, fourth and fifth albums, Time to Kill (1999), Sing and Dance (2002) and Love Affair (2003) quickly followed. Ten years after her debut she released a best-of album titled A Decade Of Dreams which also included two new tracks.
Further albums released after this 'best of' are: Memory Loves You (2007), The Ocean and Me (2008), I'm The Rain, (2010), Soul (2011).
Zelmani has also contributed music to the TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Dawson's Creek". Her cover of Bob Dylan's "Most Of The Time" appears on the soundtrack to "Masked and Anonymous", and also on the album Cohen - The Scandinavian Report.
Her song "Stand By" appeared in the film "Independence Day" (1996). Her song "Always You" appeared in the film "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997).
Dream Gets Clear

Yet I come here once a year
And it starts to get romantic
'Cause no one's ever there
And with the thought
That I could find him there
Makes it a place for dreaming
Maybe it was the sunrise
That said it'd come up as a metaphor
If you woke me for your breezes
I've underrated you before
And with the feeling
That I'd might meet him there
Makes it to a place for dreaming
The dream gets clear
Makes it to a place for dreaming
The dream gets clear
The ground's too hard to suit you
Still I wanted to lay down
And time went so differently
I was under the sun
And with the vision
Of seeing him there
Makes it to a place for dreaming
And the dream gets clear
I left at noon
With new notes in my ears
Whatever you were playing
I know that it was rare
And with the sound
Of hearing him there
Made it a place for dreaming
And the dream was clear
The song "Dream Get's Clear" by Sophie Zelmani is a hauntingly beautiful tune that speaks of longing and romanticism. The lyrics speak of a person, a stranger, who visits a place only once a year, and how this place, over time, becomes romantic because no one else is ever there. The person has an intense desire to find someone at this location, and it becomes a place for dreaming. The dream "gets clear" as their thoughts and feelings become focused on this individual, and the vision of finding them becomes stronger.
The song also speaks about the power of music and how it can transport a person to another world. The person in the song lays down on the hard ground to listen to the music, and time seems to go by differently. They leave with new notes in their ears and the knowledge that the music they heard was rare. The song suggests that music can have a transformative effect on people, making even the barren ground a place for dreaming, and the dream becoming clearer.
In summary, the song "Dream Get's Clear" by Sophie Zelmani is a beautiful tribute to the power of love and music. It speaks of how a place can become special because of the memories associated with it, and how music can transport a person to a world where dreams can become clear.
