Soulfly incorporates many styles of metal with Brazilian tribal and world music. All of their first six studio albums debuted on the United States Billboard 200, with a peak position at number 32 for their second album, Primitive. Soulfly has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The band has gone through numerous line-up changes, with Cavalera being the only constant member. In an interview with Max in 2015, it is revealed that the band's name was taken from the song "Headup" by Deftones, a song that Max collaborated on.

Soulfly Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Whoever told ya you can't seek out that dream
Whoever told ya you can never be free
Whoever told you that is your enemy you see
My life is mine, my right is mine
Cause it's my life, you see, not your life
My life is mine, my right is mine
No hope = No fear
I won't wait for the next life
The time is now, the time is right
Follow my heart, I'll get through
If you're not now, you never were
So lose yourself to find yourself
Don't need to act like nobody else
Sometimes it feels as if the road is blocked
I'll find a way, I'll move those rocks
Freedom
The lyrics to Soulfly's song "No" are an ode to personal freedom and self-discovery. The song's chorus reiterates the idea that no one can take away an individual's right to pursue happiness and fulfillment. The lyrics challenge the notion that there are limitations to what one can achieve and urge listeners to follow their hearts and take control of their own lives. The line "no hope = no fear" suggests that fear is often the result of feelings of hopelessness and that letting go of the idea of an inevitable, predetermined future can be liberating.
The verses themselves are a statement of defiance to anyone who has ever told the singer that he can't achieve his dreams or fulfill his desires. The lyrics assert that the singer's life and his right to live it are his own, and that he refuses to let anyone else dictate how he should live. The line "sometimes you have to lose your mind" implies that taking risks and stepping outside of one's comfort zone is necessary in order to truly experience freedom.
Overall, Soulfly's "No" is a testament to the power of individual autonomy and the human spirit's unyielding desire for independence.

I have their band logo tattooed on the base of my neck. My best friend 'had' it also on his arm. He passed away last year. This band has a special place in my heart, and forever always will 🤘
