My Boy Lollipop
Spice Girls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My boy Lollipop
You make my heart go giddy-up
You are as sweet as candy
You're my sugar dandy

Oh, oh
My boy Lollipop
Never, ever leave me.
Because it would grieve me.
My heart told me so!

I love you, I love you, I love you so
But I don't want you to know
I need you, I need you, I need you so
And I'll never let you go

My boy Lollipop
You make my heart go giddy-up
You set the world on fire
You are my one desire
Oh, my Lollipop

I love you, I love you, I love you so
But I don't want you to know
I need you, I need you, I need you so
And I'll never let you go

My boy Lollipop
You make my heart go giddy-up
You set the world on fire
You are my one desire
Oh, my Lollipop
Oh, my Lollipop

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Spice Girl's song "My Boy Lollipop" is essentially a love song that speaks directly to the heart of someone who has fallen deeply in love. The song speaks of how the lover makes the artist feel - as though they are on an emotional rollercoaster that constantly goes up and down. The term "giddy-up" is used in reference to a horse that moves as it goes up and down, this is used to mirror the way the person's heart behaves when the lover is around. The lyrics also use terms such as "sweet as candy" and "sugar dandy" to describe how the person's lover is so special to them - like they are made of sugar.

The song then goes on to express the fear of losing that special someone. The person doesn't ever want the lover to leave them because the mere thought of it would devastate them. This fear is so strong that the person's heart tells them never to let go, never to lose the one they truly love. The song then concludes with a repetition of the chorus as the person reaffirms their love and describes how the person they love is their one and only desire.

Overall, "My Boy Lollipop" is a classic love song that speaks about the joy and happiness that comes with being in love, while also expressing the fear of ever losing that love. The lyrics are both sweet and innocent, making it a perfect song for young love.

It would have been awesome if they recorded their own version!

@Patrick4959

does anyone get the urge of feeling with this song to go out on a speed boat while having a good time on the water ?

@TheBrooklynbodine

At 0:24, she sang "Because it would grieve me". I always wondered what she said. Thanks for the lyrics.

@beadsstitcher

THIS IS THE BEAUTIFUL VOICE OF MILLIE SMALL AND NOT THE SPICE GIRLS. THE ORIGINAL WAS RECORDED BY BARBIE GAYE IN 1956.....MILLIE RECORDED IT IN 1964 AND BECAME FAMOUS WITH IT AROUND THE WORLD. I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA AND THEY STILL PLAY IT ON THE RADIO.

@ZombieSpinks

I think the confusion is because this was in the Spice Girls movie, that's all.

@TheBrooklynbodine

I think you're right, 'cause sure as God made little green apples, this is Millie Small, not the Spice Girls.

@ezekielbreaux5723

@Mgarguemare

okay so she's not the original; however, spice girls "DID NOT" sing in the movie, they just lip synced to someone else's version.

@mariemaijsen
