Carnivore
Starset Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All my life they let me know
How far I would not go
But inside the beast still grows
Chewing through the ropes

Who are you to change this world?
Silly boy!
No one needs to hear your words.
Let it go.

Carnivore! Carnivore!
Won't you come digest me?
Take away everything I am.
Bring it to an end.
Carnivore! Carnivore!
Could you come and change me?
Take away everything I am.
Everything I am.

I will hide myself below
I'll be what you wanted
Kept inside I won't let go
'Till I burn beyond control

Who are you to change this world?
Silly boy!
No one needs to hear your words.
Let it go.

Carnivore! Carnivore!
Won't you come digest me?
Take away everything I am.
Bring it to an end.
Make me fall. Make me bleed.
Go ahead and change me?
Take away everything I am.
Everything I am.

Never enough
(Who I am is not good enough)
Never enough
(Who I am)

Carnivore! Carnivore!
Won't you come digest me?
Take away everything I am.
Bring it to an end.
Carnivore! Carnivore!
Could you come and change me?

Take away everything I am.
Everything I am. (am, am, am, am)

Overall Meaning

The meaning of the lyrics to Starset's "Carnivore" is a story of feeling trapped and unable to escape the expectations of society. The opening lines describe how the singer has been told all of his life how far he cannot go. Despite these limitations, his beast within still grows and is looking to break out. This feels like a metaphor for individualism and the urge to be free to be oneself, but the limitations only serve to intensify this desire.

However, the singer is faced with opposition from those who do not understand him. They belittle him and tell him that he cannot change the world, and that no one needs to hear his words. The singer asks this person, "who are you to change this world?" and tells him to let things go.

The refrain of "Carnivore! Carnivore!" refers to the singer's desire to be devoured and consumed, which could represent his need to be free from the societal chains he's been placed under. The chorus becomes more intense, with the singer asking to be changed and stripped of everything he is, to become someone or something different entirely.

In essence, the song is about feeling lost and unable to escape the constraints of society, with the singer searching for an outlet to be free from everything that is holding him back.

Once the Starset message is revealed I hope the Band doesn't stop making music, they've got a bright future in the music industry if they continue.

@jamesbarrett894

Industry won't like and allow their message to be spread too long, Seems they are critical of a totalitarian society which is in our future.

@DaReeceMan1

SuperSpecialWorld You do know that satan isn't real, right? So the idea of their Logo's can only be perceived as demonic by people who are mislead and misguided. Just saying.

@DaReeceMan1

SuperSpecialWorld yeah well the burden of proof isn't on me, if nobody can prove gods existance then why believe in him?
You kind of sound like that woman who thinks that the Monster energy drink is the work of Satan hahaa.

@jamesbarrett894

SuperSpecialWorld You actually hit on the right topics with the statements that you made and kudos for you my friend, very well put! As far as God and the Devil well if they weren't real we wouldn't even try and argue existence of either so clearly most people "feel" something greater but don't want to acknowledge it. I agree somewhat with what you said but i don't fully know the band yet so i can't assume to much.

@jamesbarrett894

you too.
