In Dutch speaking countries he is best known for his 1991 hit record ‘Papa’ - about a father/son relation. Since then he has made several albums and has also become quite popular amongst the Afrikaner population of South-Africa where he recorded several songs with crossovers between his European style and the tribal sounds of Southern Africa.
In 2004 he published as a poet. He is still performing and developing new material.

Ik zat vanmiddag in een hospice en voelde daar de pijn van mensen die hun geliefden moeten missen over een poosje. Het doet zo verschrikkelijk zeer dat ook mijn alles daar ligt. Stef is nog steeds zo graag gehoord in Vlaanderen, hij is echt wel de 1990-2010 de file de rouge door Nederland en Vlaanderen. Hij is eigenlijk de Herman Van Veen en Boudewijn de Groot samen anno 1990-2010-2020? Fantastisch!

Ik heb net als 32 jarige ontslag genomen in het bedrijf waar ik al 8 jaar carriere maak met goede collega's maar het weegt te veel op mijn prive leven om ook daar iets moois op te bouwen. "Want er is geen weg terug, voor wie altijd blijft stil staan". Wat prachtig is dit nummer toch.
