Slice Of Life
Stray From the Path Lyrics
You've masked all meaning with some pros
You're caught
I don't even think you know, we've got the evidence concrete
You're sinking with cement on your feet
It must be lonely on the ocean floor
It must be lonely on the ocean floor
There's no separation when you're all on board
Blending in the shadows while the sun is blinding
It makes me think (it makes me think), what other secrets you're hiding
Striving to be the unapproachable
The king on a dead throne of lies
Preaching and speaking with no proof of the truth to the youth
With impressionable eyes
Be afraid, be very afraid
Be afraid, be very afraid
And you should fear me (fear me)
No telling what I'll do, 'cause I know the real you
And now you're drowning
You have no sense of yourself in the sea of lost identity
With an army behind you, there's power inside you
But when you're alone, I bet you're not so hard
With an army behind you, there's power inside you
But when you're alone, I bet you're not so hard
You've masked all meaning with some pros
You're caught
I don't even think you know, we've got the evidence concrete
You're sinking with cement on your feet
It must be lonely on the ocean floor
It must be lonely on the ocean floor
You jump ship real quick to stay ahead of the trend
You tell yourself you like it but we know you pretend
So down to earth, closer to the hardcore
It must be lonely on the ocean floor
It must be lonely
It must be lonely on the ocean floor (It must be lonely)
It must be lonely on the ocean floor (It must be lonely)
It must be lonely on the ocean floor (It must be lonely)
It must be lonely on the ocean floor It must be lonely
It must be lonely
With an army behind you, there's power inside you
But when you're alone, I bet you're not so hard
With an army behind you, there's power inside you
But when you're alone, I bet you're not so hard
It must be lonely on the ocean floor

"This song is one of the less obvious tracks. There's a lot more cleverness to the way the lyrics were put together. I love the fact that we all work on lyrics together in the studio because of the collaboration on the more metaphorical lines.
Anyways, 'Slice of Life' is about elitist kids who think their opinion on musical taste is the only right one. It's also about the kids who need to inflict fear on other people by physically or verbally abusing others to prove a point. Read Full Bio"This song is one of the less obvious tracks. Anyways, 'Slice of Life' is about elitist kids who think their opinion on musical taste is the only right one. It's also about the kids who need to inflict fear on other people by physically or verbally abusing others to prove a point. The point being that they are the 'Real Hardcore Kids.' What I get out of this song is the fact that there are so many people in this scene that think they are cooler, tougher and all around better than everyone else.
In most cases the only reason they feel that way is because they got together with some fake 'homies' and started acting like a bunch of tough guys who only like whatever band's demo. 'You jump ship real quick to stay ahead of the trend. You tell yourself you like it but we know you pretend. So down to earth closer to the hardcore. It must be lonely on the ocean floor.' This is my personal favourite lyric in the song. It just briefly explains how some people have to ride the coat tails of others to feel important. But in the end they're just losing sight of themselves and will end up alone. The title for the song came from the TV series Dexter (it's the name of Dexter's boat)."
