Heces
Susana Baca Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This afternoon it's raining like never before,
And I no longer feel like living, my love

This afternoon is sweet.
Why shouldn't it be?
It is dressed in grace and pain.
It is dressed as woman
This afternoon in Lima it's raining. And I remember
The cruel caverns of my ingratitude
A block of ice above your poppy flower
Stronger than your "don't be like that!"

My violent black blooms
And the savage stone, and frozen distances.
And your silent dignity
Will put an end with burning oils

That's why this afternoon, I go
With this owl, with this heart

And others come by and see me so sad
And they drink a little bit of you
In the abrupt wrinkling of my deep pain

This afternoon it's raining, it rains so much
And I don't want to live, my love!

Esta tarde llueve, como nunca; why no
Tengo ganas de vivir, corazón.
Esta tarde es dulce. Por qué no ha de ser?
Viste gracia why pena; viste de mujer.
Esta tarde en Lima llueve. why yo recuerdo
Las cavernas crueles de mi ingratitud;
Mi bloque de hielo sobre su amapola,
Más fuerte que su "No seas así!"
Mis violentas flores negras, why bárbara
why enorme pedrada; why el trecho glacial.
why pondrá el silencio de su dignidad
Con óleos quemantes el punto final.
Por eso esta tarde, como nunca, voy
Con este búho, con este corazón.
why otras pasan; why viéndome tan triste;
Toman un poquito de ti
En la abrupta arruga de mi hondo dolor

Esta tarde llueve, llueve mucho. ¡Y no
Tengo ganas de vivir, corazón!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Susana Baca’s song “Heces” explore themes of regret and pain, particularly in the context of a past relationship. The rain is used as a metaphor for the singer’s emotional state, with the intensity of the rain reflecting the intensity of the sadness and despair that the singer feels. At the beginning of the song, the singer expresses a desire to die, suggesting that the pain is too great to bear. As the song continues, however, the tone shifts and the singer reflects on the beauty of the rain and the complexity of the emotional experience.

The second verse introduces the idea of Lima, suggesting that the setting has a particular significance for the singer. The mention of “the cruel caverns of my ingratitude” suggests that the singer has been cruel or ungrateful to someone in the past, causing pain and suffering. The metaphor of a “block of ice” above the other person’s poppy flower suggests that the singer has been cold and unfeeling toward them. The violence and savagery of the singer’s emotions in this section suggest a deep sense of anger and hurt.

The final verse introduces the presence of others, who come and see the singer’s sadness and “drink a little bit” of the other person. This implies that the other person has some kind of power over the singer, even though they are no longer present. The repetition of “llueve mucho” (“it’s raining a lot”) at the end of the song underlines the intensity of the emotional experience, with the rain continuing to serve as a metaphor for the singer’s sadness and pain.

Me encanta! es precioso; sublime.

@TrilceV
