After taking a brief recording hiatus in the mid-1990s to start a family with her husband, songwriter Doug Crider, Bogguss returned to the country music scene to find that her charting power had already faded. Although she last appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1999, Bogguss continues to record and perform around the country to a loyal following.
Her most recent recordings have ventured into swing and jazz variations of country. These albums really showcase the tremendous talent in her voice. Suzy is a true singer, and her voice has so much versatility.
In 2014, Suzy added an album of Merle Haggard songs entitled "Lucky". The country & western flavor dominates this album, unlike some of her other recent work. To promote this new album, Suzy has embarked on a nationwide tour.

I believe it's how you feel when you touch my hand
When you hold me tight
But can I really fall asleep
Is this a promise we can keep and know it'll feel the same
In the morning light
Careless words only fade away
I won't do it
You can have this promise, we'll never be apart
Take it to your heart
And hold me to it
Turn the light on look around
A hundred years from now everything we know
Could fade from sight
But love can last that long
If we build it slow and strong, standing on the promise
That we make tonight
Careless words only fade away
They don't mean what they say
I won't do it
You can have this promise, we'll never be apart
Take it to your heart
And hold me to it
Take it to you heart and hold me to it
In Suzy Bogguss's song "It," the singer expresses her belief in the reality of love and the importance of making and keeping promises in a relationship. The first verse talks about the physical sensations of love, how it feels to touch and hold someone, and how those experiences can be fleeting. The second verse, however, emphasizes the power of a promise to last beyond the moment, even into the distant future. The lyrics suggest that while love may be ephemeral, a commitment to one another can make it endure.
The chorus reinforces this message, urging the listener to take the promise to heart and hold the singer to it. The repeated line "careless words only fade away, they don't mean what they say" suggests that words without action are meaningless, and that the real value of words is in the follow-through. The final line is a direct plea to the listener to take the singer's words seriously and hold her accountable for them.
Overall, "It" is a song about the power of commitment and the importance of backing up words with actions. It acknowledges the challenges of maintaining a lasting love, but insists that with dedication and perseverance, it is possible to build something that will endure.
