After taking a brief recording hiatus in the mid-1990s to start a family with her husband, songwriter Doug Crider, Bogguss returned to the country music scene to find that her charting power had already faded. Although she last appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1999, Bogguss continues to record and perform around the country to a loyal following.
Her most recent recordings have ventured into swing and jazz variations of country. These albums really showcase the tremendous talent in her voice. Suzy is a true singer, and her voice has so much versatility.
In 2014, Suzy added an album of Merle Haggard songs entitled "Lucky". The country & western flavor dominates this album, unlike some of her other recent work. To promote this new album, Suzy has embarked on a nationwide tour.
It's a Perfect Day

The water's cryin' down my windowpane
Just like a little girl, the thunder makes me feel afraid
The trees are dancing in the gypsy wind
Guess they don't know yet that I lost my best friend
I can't believe that I'll never hold you in my arms again
I know we said that this was right
But how'm I supposed to make it through another lonely night
When my heart just wants to hold on to you
And my heart just can't believe that this is true
Maybe I can convince my mind, but it's my heart
It's only Saturday and I feel so alone
We let go yesterday on the telephone
I guess it's time I learn to make it on my own
I know we said that this was right
But how'm I supposed to make it through another lonely night
When my heart just wants to hold on to you
And my heart just can't believe that this is true
Maybe I can convince my mind, but it's my heart
It's a perfect day for a little rain
I'm sure the sun will shine on another day
In Suzy Bogguss's song "It's a Perfect Day," the lyrics express the heartache of losing someone that you loved deeply. The singer compares herself to a little girl, frightened by the sound of the thunder and crying raindrops on the windowpane. The wind is blowing the trees in a wild dance, but the singer is unable to find joy in the moment because she has lost her best friend. The pain is so deep that the singer cannot believe that she will never hold her loved one in her arms again.
Even though the singer acknowledges that they said that this was the right thing to do, she cannot imagine how to get through another night alone. The lyrics show that the mind and heart are in conflict, with the heart unable to let go of the one they loved. The singer is trying to find a way to convince her mind to accept the loss, but her heart is still holding on.
The singer expresses this sense of loss and helplessness, and the lyrics paint a picture of grief, encapsulating the emotions of someone who has lost someone dear to them. The song is a beautiful and poignant reminder of the pain of losing someone we love, and it speaks to the universal feeling of loss and heartbreak.
