This is Marc Bolan here, I'd like to wish you all a super funk Christmas and a golden New Year!
Yeah!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to T. Rex's song "Xmas Riff" are a short and catchy greeting from Marc Bolan, the lead singer of the band. The song starts with Bolan's voice introducing himself and wishing his listeners a "super funk Christmas." The phrase "super funk" is interesting because it combines two musical genres: funk and rock. This mixing of genres was one of the defining characteristics of T. Rex's music. The second part of the greeting is a wish for a "golden New Year," which suggests a hope for prosperity and good fortune. The adjective "golden" also has a magical connotation, as if Bolan is wishing for a year of transformation and excitement.

@jackiepur I have the flexi too. You're obviously a fan like me!! This version is from an old Japanese CD from the late 80's called "It's T.Rexmas". It has standalone versions of three of the songs from the flexi and some others too. Merry Rexmas.

"Nov. 1975. Christmas Bop/Telegram Sam/Metal Guru.(Scheduled for release but cancelled). EMI Marc 12." see wiki /Marc_Bolan // cf. Bolan's T.Rexmas featured in 1972. Anybody come up with evidence that Bolan perhaps wrote this song in 1971 or prior? This song has nothing on the John Lennon's classic War is Over (Now this is Christmas), but I'm just curious how much Ringo / John bled Marc for inspiration. Jealousy is a curse.
