The Alfee's song Futari no Graduation depicts a love story that is about to end as two people in love experience their graduation day from school. The lyrics start with the image of Tokyo Bay shining in the rain, with the singer watching his lover walking barefoot and getting her hair wet with every passing second. The sad harbor light seems to reflect the singer's sorrow over the forthcoming separation from his love. The rain here symbolizes the tears and the pain that both of them are feeling.
As the song progresses, we learn that the couple started their journey together with innocent hearts, believing that they could walk through life's journey with their sneakers on. However, as they grew older, things changed, and the girl started wearing red lipstick, hiding her true emotions behind a veil of elegance. The chorus repeatedly urges them to stop crying, stop feeling the pain, and stop the cold rain from making their hearts freeze in agony. They want to hold on to their precious memories and not let go of each other as they enter the world of adults.
In the last verse, the Tokyo Bay is described as misty, and the singer wishes to kiss his lover's eyes and both to enjoy their graduation day. They stand together, drenched, in the rain, feeling like they have been drenched in champagne after a huge win. As the song comes to an end, they slowly fade away, taking their love story with them forever.
