Valhalla
TYR Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Faiths and fools will pretend they have the answers to all
In awe they'll defend fictional visions of mist

I never believed in their stories
I never saw sense in their speech
All they ever taught me was hatred

Through the ages your desolate pages we're forced to learn
Bitter days and your logical maze in return
Through the stages of conscience in cages we bleed and burn
Just take me to Valhalla

Truth and tears of the past haunting my mind as I lay
Alone have at last made up my mind what you are

No learning or logical method
No reason or rhyme in your word
I have learned that nothing is sacred

Through the ages your desolate pages we're forced to learn
Bitter days and your logical maze in return
Through the stages of conscience in cages we bleed and burn
Just take me to Valhalla

Take your time, in the end time takes us all we grow
Old and ail, don't pretend you have the answers to all

Don't trouble me with all your worries
Don't tell me were born into sin
Physically and mentally naked

Through the ages your desolate pages we're forced to learn
Bitter days and your logical maze in return
Through the stages of conscience in cages we bleed and burn
Just take me to Valhalla

Existential dictatorship when shall we see the days
Come around when you burn to the ground in a blaze

Stay this madness and keep all your sadness inside your maze
Just take me to Valhalla

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Týr's "Valhalla" speak to the frustration and disillusionment of an individual who has been taught and indoctrinated into a certain belief system or religion, only to find that it is meaningless and harmful. The first verse criticizes those who claim to have all the answers, but in reality, defend unreal visions of heaven or mist. The singer of the song never believed in their stories or found sense in their teachings, but only found hatred as a result. The second verse continues this sentiment, with the singer recognizing that the only things forced upon them were desolate pages, bitter days, and logical mazes. The truth and tears of the past haunt their mind, but they have finally realized that the belief system is meaningless and they desire to go to Valhalla, a realm in Norse mythology where fallen warriors go. Finally, the last verse is a plea to be taken to Valhalla, away from the existential dictatorship and sadness of the current reality.

Overall, this song speaks to the frustration and disillusionment that can come with realizing that a belief system or religion is hollow and harmful. It criticizes those who claim to have all the answers, but only cause pain and hatred. The song ultimately calls for a better alternative and escape from the current reality.

This band is proof that you don't have to have a vocalist who sounds like he gargled with battery acid to be metal.

@lytherael2309

My thoughts exactly. I prefer to listen to things I can understand. Not gibberish like most metal singers release from their mouths.... it was Tyr who restored my faith in metal.

@BlueAnon

That's the badassadry of viking folk metal

@mr420quickscops2

There's a huge difference between the good screams of Metal bands like System of a Down or Miss May I and the growls of bands like Cannibal Corpse. I much prefer the former to the latter

@lytherael2309

Scream Like You Mean It I completely agree!

@randpaul7031

The growls in cannibal corpse aren't too bad. What I can't stand is that slam deathcore "BREE BREE BREE BREE" shit.

@Mephilis78

I literally just had this conversation in my head. Though, I had my windows open... so they probably could hear it.

(My neighbor blasts shitty rap music all day, so I don't give a fuck what he thinks. I'll make him listen to Wolfkreig next)

@someguyontheinternet5944

Unless Odin can hear it from Asgard, it's not loud enough.
