Overall Meaning

The song "Valkyrjan" by TYR is about the valkyries, mythical female figures from Norse mythology who choose the bravest warriors to die in battle and bring them to Valhalla, the afterlife realm of warriors. The lyrics describe the valkyries flying over the battlefield and selecting the fallen soldiers to join the ranks of the Einherjar, the chosen warriors who will fight by Odin's side during Ragnarok, the final battle. The valkyries are depicted as powerful and alluring creatures who can lead men to their deaths, but also to glory and eternal life.

The first verse describes the valkyries' role in choosing the fallen soldiers (feigdini) and taking them to their final resting place in Valhalla. The second verse mentions that not all the soldiers are chosen, and those who are left behind mourn for their fallen comrades. The third verse talks about the valkyries leading the hildarleik (battle games) between the hшvdingar (chieftains) of different tribes, and how these battles can end in victory or defeat. Throughout the song, the valkyries are praised for their beauty, power, and mystical allure.

Overall, "Valkyrjan" is a tribute to the valkyries and their important role in Norse mythology. It celebrates the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen warriors, while also acknowledging the darker side of war and the valkyries' association with death.

The intro is from Edward Grieg, Solveis Song. (Norwegian composer) Its not by Kamelot. Kamelot Forever is a remake of Solveis Song. Edward Grieg also made the world famous "In the hall of the mountain king" and others.

@Oogalook Kamelot didn't credit him, and got flamed for it. They admitted it later.
But Tyr gave Grieg 100% credit for this song. And yes, the guitar playing here is perfect for this tune. :)

I was just gonna comment this. It's super classy of Tyr to quote that lovely work, eh? I find it chilling and exciting. And the electric guitar rendering does it great justice!

@Dreamwar Actually, the intro was derived from Edvard Grieg's classical piece, Solveig's Song, from the Peer Gynt Suite. He has other brilliant compositions as well, and is among my utmost favorite composers. This piece of his is simply immaculate, and it happens to be one of my favorites :)

I'm forever impressed by the work that Tyr can produce. Great instrument work; amazing vocals and the theme of our ancestors. These men are true modern Skjalds
