Singer/songwriter Mike Ferrio leads the group and his songs are often charged with memories of his childhood in a remote farming community. Ferrio and drummer Tom McCrum formed Tandy in the mid-'90s and the group released its self-titled debut shortly thereafter. Their fourth album, the Bloodroot Transcriptions, came out in 2001. The effort saw a more stripped-down approach, as well as the addition of multi-instrumentalist Drew Glackin (the Silos) and Scott Yoder (Star City, Blue Chieftains, World Famous Blue Jays).

When I listen to this kind of early 2000s electronica, I'm very often astonished to see that most IDM or techno artists at this time period delivered a more serious/forward-thinking/educated/minimalistic music. Kettel as an exemple sounds way more serious and meticulous here than in his future works. It's the case for many artists. The digital/laptop revolution of the years around 2000 gave to people some futuristic wings and visions. Their electronica works combined all the classic of the 20th century with all the hope and faith for the new millenium. This computerish and minimalistic design (which is for me one of the most intelligent things that ever happened to music) now belongs to the past, but will forever be precious for me.
