His tenth studio album, K.O.D., was released October 27, 2009. He has spent his illustrious career making sure he’s been grinding harder than the average rapper, and is the best selling artist out of his hometown. With nine solo albums and two powerhouse collaboration projects under his belt, the Kansas City MC’s flow is sharper and slicker than it’s ever been.
“This is another roller coaster ride,” explains TECH N9NE about the release. “When it came time for Sickology 101, I knew I wanted to do a collabo album based on the study of being sick. It’s a beginner’s course for people who don’t know how to be sick lyrically or how to choose sick beats. It all starts with beats because they tell me exactly what to do.” Epic beats from YoungFyre, Wyshmaster, Seven and Matic Lee set the stage for TECH N9NE to weave his introspective and sometimes roguish lyrics around.
Sickology 101 brims with stellar appearances from lyrical heavyweights. On the opening title track, TECH N9NE slays alongside Chino XL and Crooked I, pulling listeners into the Hip-Hop classroom for a lesson in murdering a beat. It’s a twisted vision forged on undeniable grooves and quixotic wordplay.
The single, “Nothin,’” is an inspiring, honest anthem that features Messy Marv and Big Scoob. Meanwhile, on “Midwest Choppers 2,” TECH N9NE and Krayzie Bone cruise to the depths of darkness. “Krayzie Bone came through and murdered it,” says TECH N9NE. “I modeled the song after movies. When you do a sequel, there has to be a bigger body count and more people have to die. ‘Midwest Choppers 2’ is Autobahn-style. It makes you want to speed.”
TECH N9NE’s inimitable flow and rhyming take center stage on solo tracks, including the haunting, hypnotic “Red Nose.” He doesn’t pull any punches on the vitriolic, YoungFyre-produced “Blown Away,” either. It’s an open letter to several prominent urban artists who refused to play before him at radio festivals despite his massive concert draw.
With hits like “I’m A Playa,” “Caribou Lou” (which boasts 7.2 million MySpace plays), “Riotmaker,” “Like Yeah” and “Everybody Move,” it’s no wonder TECH N9NE counts a total of over 4.5 million YouTube video plays and an average of 40,000 MySpace visitors each day. His success knows no limits. The July 2008 release, Killer, debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart and Number 12 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. He did it all on his own. There was no major label — just TECH N9NE’s own record company, Strange Music. TECH N9NE’s tracks have appeared in films like Gang Related and Alpha Dog as well as various TV shows, and he recently made his motion picture debut in The Life of Lucky Cucumber alongside members of MTV’s “Jackass” crew.
It hasn’t been an easy road, but TECH N9NE soldiers on and he’ll never stop. “They call me devil worshipper because I’m different. I give you music for my core. They’re the people that put me over the million mark. I raise my middle finger to everybody who judges me because my core audience is there for me. They will always love me, but I’m trying to reach others, too. It’s not over. My music is supposed to be for everybody, but some people just don’t get it. This album is the result; swallow it. It’s middle finger music, all-day and all-night.”
TECH N9NE never stops bringing that music directly to his fans, constantly reinforcing his status as one of the hardest-touring rap acts in the business. In 2008, TECH N9NE performed over 200 shows and he doesn’t show any signs of slowing down in 2009. In April, TECH will head out in support of Sickology 101 and spend two months on the road, performing live for his rabid fans.
Sickology 101 is prepping the world for TECH N9NE’s next masterpiece, K.O.D. “I want people to know that I’m getting better and better and I’m a machine. I do these collabo albums to give the fans more. This is a bridge record to K.O.D. It’s the farewell to the TECH N9NE you’ve known lately. It’s getting darker. A lot of people might not be able to go to the place I’m going, but this place is my specialty.”
“I don’t need people to kiss my hand,” assures TECH N9NE. “I’m not trippin’ on status, and I’m not a narcissist when it comes to rap. It’s my heart and soul pouring onto the paper. I write my life and I can’t hold back. This is what I know.”

The Boogieman
Tech N9ne Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And just when they thought
That everything was peachy keen
Somewhere deep within the shadows
There were other things to be seen
An untamable beast with an urge to feast
And only alone would he stand,
There lies, the boogie man.
No introduction needed
N9ne times you must repeat it
Mind trying just to lead it
I'm N9ne, who supposed to be this rough MC
Who's glutton-ny would rhyme grime,
Trust believe it
A legend ever since the projects
Odd tech would get respect when he wreck the set
But never get the props that was god blessed
So this is me, never let the prod rest
The object of rawness inject your steps to darkness
Led the industry to whispering the name
History became a mystery
'cause listeners in the game
Wish to sing the same
Which cerebral glitch will lead to lane
And this will be your pit
For me to split and bleed your brain
They heard the name
But can't put a face to it,
Oh what a shame
When he rains
And when he stands still, he turn to lanes
From sane to straight wicked, don't tell me you ain't heard the saying
The boogiemans real
[Chorus]
He's underneath your bed
Trapped inside your head
you tried to fight it
But you decided it's just that,
Boogieman
We fear what we can't see
This webs a tangled weave
Laughter inside you,
Tries 'n' blind you,
From that boogieman.
An in that voice you hear
'Eliminate your fears'
What do you do?
Discover the truth
That is The Boogieman
And now you know it's real
And everything you feel
Hits you again, you will stand
Face-to-face with that Boogieman
They don't wanna have to try to do as I do
That's prolly why it ain't been easy for me to slide through
I chew rappers up, on stage and mics they by-Flew,
Out with the ravens, flight to hatin, haven lies you
'cause you don't want change
And you don't want strange,
Rearranging the main lanes to brain games from plain jane
That's when your fames strange
And you can maintain
you think you sang such an insane rain, same thing
And I'm the shadow in the dark
That came for battlin' in the park
And they skidaddled when I barked
That give a rattle to their hearts
'Cause they're afraid they will all fail
Darkness will prevail
The boogieman is not a tall tail
Wat a tough act to follow
you afraid? tell me are ya?
When this came you were nada
Tell your lane sayonara
(The boogieman, the boogieman)
[Chorus]
Tech N9ne’s song The Boogieman speaks of the fears and anxieties that constantly lurk in the human psyche, often unnoticed yet leaving a long-lasting impact. As the first verse proclaims, the world may seem perfect on the surface, but lurking in the shadows is the Boogieman - an untamable beast whose sole purpose is to feast on the victim's fear. In the words of Tech N9ne himself, he is the "culprit of fear on the 67th tear". The lyrics suggest that the Boogieman is an internal demon - an echo of the fears that we often shun aside but which eventually take hold and result in distress and despair.
Moving on to the chorus, the lyrics express the Boogieman as a phobia that is locked within the psyche. It is a feeling that is impossible to shake off, with the web of tangled weave causing constant laughter that blinds us from the reality of the Boogieman. The voice inside suggests to eliminate the fears, but discovering the truth of the Boogieman leaves one in terror. The lyrics suggest that it is something that cannot be defeated, only confronted and endured.
Overall, the lyrics of The Boogieman evoke a sense of dread and paranoia based on the Boogieman being a symbol of the weight of our fears within. The imagery Tech N9ne uses, the untamable beast, the laughter that blinds us and the echo of fears, makes the song a chilling reminder of the inherent power of our anxieties.

We fear things that we can't see clearly

You are laughing at yourself
Tries 'n' blind you,
This laughter is blinding you to the truth

You hear a voice
'Eliminate your fears'
Telling you to eliminate your fears

What do you choose to do?

And now you know it's real
Now that you know the truth

And everything you are feeling
Hits you again, you will stand
Will hit you again and you will face it again
Face-to-face with that Boogieman
Face-to-face with the boogieman himself
They don't wanna have to try to do as I do
Other rappers don't want to try to do what I do
That's prolly why it ain't been easy for me to slide through
That's probably why it's been difficult for me to make it in the industry
I chew rappers up, on stage and mics they by-Flew,
I destroy other rappers on stage and on recordings
Out with the ravens, flight to hatin, haven lies you
I fly away from the negativity and hate
'cause you don't want change
Because they don't want to change
And you don't want strange,
And they don't want anything new or different
Rearranging the main lanes to brain games from plain jane
Changing the game and making music that's different from the norm
That's when your fames strange
That's when your fame becomes weird or abnormal
And you can maintain
But you can still hold onto your success
you think you sang such an insane rain, same thing
You think you're making insane music, but it's really the same as everyone else
And I'm the shadow in the dark
I'm the shadow lurking in the darkness
That came for battlin' in the park
Here to compete with other rappers
And they skidaddled when I barked
But they run away when I start to show my dominance
That give a rattle to their hearts
This makes them scared
'Cause they're afraid they will all fail
Because they are afraid they will fail against me
Darkness will prevail
The darkness and fear will take over
The boogieman is not a tall tail
The boogieman is not just a made-up story
