The original use of strings: cello, violin, guitars, a full string quartet diverts the traditional perception of those classic instruments when they deal with electronics and the result is emotionally moving.
The album has been written and recorded between Berlin and Rome, it took nearly two years to be made, Teho and Blixa worked next to each other choosing carefully every sound, every word and silence.
There are 12 songs on Still Smiling, including a new version of A Quiet Life and a cover of Alone With The Moon by The Tiger Lilies.
Amongst collaborators there are The Balanescu Quartet and cellist Martina Bertoni.
Lyrics are visionary and are sung in english, german and italian, Blixa reveals a really personal and intimate side to the listener this time.
Still Smiling is an album whose special vision covers all the sky between Rome and Berlin, daytime and nocturnal.
It'll be released on Teho's label Specula on april 22nd in Italy and it'll be distributed all over Europe on June 28th 2013.
There's also an italian tour in May: 7th Roma, Circolo degli Artisti, 9th Milano, Alcatraz, 10th Moncalieri/Torino, Audiodrome, 11th Bologna, Senza Filtro where Teho and Blixa will be joined on stage by cellist Martina Bertoni.

Zwischen den Balken der Film
Es fehlt etwas
Die Verlängerung der Gesten
Die Gärung im Getränk
Dafür gibt es ein Wort
Betäubt bin ich jetzt wohl schon genug
Vielleicht betrunken sogar
Die Keimzelle ist ein Dilemma
Das konsequent betäubt
In Alkohol gelöst
Sich verflüchtigt in der Tinktur
Mit einem Quäntchen Ignoranz
Oder besser noch: Vergesslichkeit
Es fehlt etwas
Endorphine in der Muttermilch
Ein kleiner Zungentanz
Es fehlt etwas
Das erstaunte Schweigen der Vögel
In der totalen Sonnenfinternis
Es fehlt etwas
Chocolate-mousse und Calvados
Dafür gibt es ein Wort
Wander mit dem Finger
Durch alle Kanäle
Und finde nichts
Dafür gibt es ein Wort
Auch dafür gibt es ein Wort
Der Lieder sinken gravitätisch zusammen
Der Film verläuft sich ohne mich
Was der Mund verzahnt wird noch geputzt
Umlaufbahn
Sektengelände, utopischer Ort:
Jeder hat sein eigenes Haus
Shakespeare is dort
Es wird mit verrotteten Lilien gedüngt
Dafür gibt es ein Wort
Meine Hände warden deiner Haut nicht satt
Meine Mitte will nicht
An deiner statt, die Hände
Ohne Möbel ohne Wände
Auf dem Boden auf der Flucht
Dafür gibt es ein Wort
Dafür gibt es ein Wort
The lyrics of Nocturnalie by Teho Teardo and Blixa Bargeld touch upon the feeling of something missing in life. The words "Es fehlt etwas" or "something is missing" appears several times throughout the song, and the rest of the lyrics explore the different possibilities of what it could be. The missing element is described as a "film between the beams," an extension of gestures, the fermentation in a drink, or even the endorphins found in breast milk. The song also mentions being numb or drunk and seeking solace in alcohol, and the idea of a utopian place where everyone has their own house and even Shakespeare himself resides.
The song paints a picture of a restlessness and a sense of not belonging, with the lyrics "My hands can never have enough of your skin / My center does not want to be you / The hands, without furniture or walls / On the floor, on the run." The mention of flicking through channels and finding nothing, and the sinking of songs with gravity, adds to the sense of searching and not finding what is missing. The repeated phrase "dafür gibt es ein Wort" or "there is a word for this" could suggest the need for language to put words to emotions that are difficult to describe.
