The idea for the project began one day a couple of years ago when Alaina made fun of Patrick for playing tennis in college. A year later the two fled their hometown Denver to spend eight months sailing and exploring the North Atlantic coast. During their adventures they began writing music together documenting their experiences. The Longboat Pass Songfacts reports that the pair eventually recorded their songs. The resulting album, Cape Dory, is about their time on the seas, the majority of the tracks being about the difficulties they experienced during their trip.

2. Australian Indie band containing two brothers, two cousins and a mystery bass player. Tennis have left the halcyon days of art school behind in pursuit of the perfect musical storm. Tennis played their first gig at a strip club in Surry Hills circa ’06, simultaneously debuting in Sydney’s indie and adult entertainment scenes.
Pursuing the former rather than the latter, Tennis have since graced the stages of many more credible venues, supporting the likes of; Matt & Kim(USA), The Ruby Suns(NZ), Wolf and Cub, Children Collide, Lost Valentinos, Tame Impala and The Holidays. Quiet in the springtime
Without warning
Passing in a fever
Sweet as honey
Flowers in a thin rain (flowers in a thin rain)
Daylight driving
Me back to your arms (back to your arms)
We've been rising from the ground
Can't keep my head out of the clouds
Another plane to carry the sound like echoes
I work real hard but I'll never be sure
To provide for my baby in the physical world
But you don't care about material things like paper
When you know, you know
It's better with your eyes closed
We draw circles
Halo-ing the skyline
Through the window
Caught up in the breeze
Early morning
Stretching over hours (stretching over hours)
While you go on
Talking in your sleep
Can you get it, it's subtle and quick
Feel the Earth begin to shift
How can anything contradict our nature (our nature)
I work real hard but I'll never be sure
To provide for my baby in the physical world
But you don't care about material things like paper (like paper)
We've been rising from the ground
Can't keep my head out of the clouds
Another plane to carry the sound like echos (like echos)
All I hope for takes me deeper
With never any plan, only echoes
All I hope for takes me deeper
With never any plan, only echoes
The lyrics of Tennis's song “Paper” are centered around a love that is not based on material things. The opening lines on the song describe an early morning in springtime, and how the singer is caught up in their feelings. They compare their feelings to sweet honey and describe the experience of witnessing a thin rain over flowers. The singer then talks about how they are being driven back to their lover’s arms, which suggests that they have been apart for a while.
The second verse talks about how the singer is working hard to provide for their baby but is not sure if they will ever be successful in achieving this in the physical world. They mention how they don't care about material things like paper, which can be interpreted both as actual paper currency and figuratively as in money. They emphasize that their love is not based on tangible things but on their connection. The lyrics are accompanied by a dreamy melody that helps emphasize the importance of love over material things.
Overall, the song Paper by Tennis is a beautiful love song that emphasizes the importance of true love and connection over material things. The song is an ode to pure, unadulterated love that transcends tangible things like paper. The lyrics suggest that although the physical world might be important for survival, what truly counts in life is the connections we have with each other and the moments we share together.
