Let's Take The long Way Home
The Beautiful Girls Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've been carrying it for so long.
I don't know what it wants with me.
Lord please let me be.
Rolling dice on my hotel room bed.
"Man, it feels so nice to love some one" she said.
"Cause when the evening comes I'm scared to be bad all by myself."
And now she's singing,
"Happiness always scared me half to death.
Never had myself no lovin' to caress."
Little darling stop those tears and dry those eyes, I'm a be right here.
And I'd really love to stay tonight, if you'll have me here.
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Little girl you know I love you so.
Let's take it easy now and simmer down.
Little girl, let's take the long way home.
The Beautiful Girls’ “Let’s Take the Long Way Home” is a song that speaks of weariness, longing for companionship, and the fear of being alone. The lyrics begin with the singer expressing his exhaustion from carrying a burden for a long time, one whose purpose he is unsure of. The song then takes a turn as the singer is gambling in his hotel room, only to be comforted by a woman who says that it is scary to be alone at night. The singer then empathizes with the woman, acknowledging that he too knows how it feels to be alone when the evening comes.
As the song progresses, the woman reveals that she has never experienced happiness or love until now, and the singer comforts her, promising to stay by her side. The song ends with a call for them to take it easy and simmer down as they take the long way home together.
Overall, the song is a reflection of the human need for companionship and love, and the longing that comes with being alone. The lyrics also suggest the importance of finding happiness and a sense of belonging in someone else, which can be comforting in times of uncertainty and weariness.
