Count Backwards From Ten
The Big Pink Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She's calling out to us all
And I ache
She did not know it belonged to me
And we could fall into each others arms and severed clean
Oh where to lean
Now, it's something that I could've asked for
Apparently
And I don't know what I saw
And I hope that no one saw
Stand by my side
Better off dead
Better off dead
Better off dead
You seem a little low again
I'm ready to leave again
Seem a little low
And eyes start to roll
I reveal
I reveal
To see that little glow again
I'm ready to leave again
Seem a little low
And the wheels start to roll
I reveal
I reveal
To see that a little glow
I've seen all that's there
And I seen it all and I said
Its calling out to all and I ache
She did not know it belonged to me
And it was something that I couldn't ask for
The lyrics of The Big Pink's song "Countbackwards from Ten" suggest a sense of longing, confusion and perhaps even regret. The opening verse "I've seen it all and I said, she's calling out to us all, and I ache" seems to capture a feeling of having experienced everything life has to offer but still feeling unfulfilled. The singer appears to be yearning for a connection, with someone they feel a deep bond with even though that person does not realize the depth of their feelings. The lines "She did not know it belonged to me and we could fall into each other's arms and severed clean, oh where to lean" connote a desire for emotional intimacy that is not reciprocated, and a sense of frustration with not knowing what to do about it.
As the song progresses, the lyrics become increasingly disjointed, with repetitions of fragmented thoughts and phrases like "better off dead," "seem a little low," "eyes start to roll," and "I reveal." These lyrics create a sense of disorientation, almost as if the singer is losing their grip on reality or struggling with mental health issues. The chorus "I've seen all that's there and I've seen it all and I said, it's calling out to all and I ache" is repeated throughout the song, suggesting a sense of cyclical despair with no clear resolution.
Overall, "Countbackwards from Ten" seems to be a song about the human condition - the desire for connection, the inevitability of disappointment, and the difficulty of reconciling opposing emotions like longing and despair. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of someone struggling to keep themselves together even as they feel like falling apart.
