O Little Town Of Bethlehem
The C.R.S. Players Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by
Yet in the dark streets shineth the everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight
How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is given
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His Heaven
No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin
Where meek souls will receive him still the dear Christ enters in
Be close to us, draw near to us, Our Lord Emmanuel
O come to us, abide with us, oh precious gift of Heaven
Be close to us, draw near to us, Our Lord Emmanuel
O holy child of Bethlehem, descend to us we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today
We hear the Christmas angels, and great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel
O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel
The song "O Little Town of Bethlehem" by The C.R.S. Players is a Christmas classic that tells the story of the birth of Christ in Bethlehem. The first verse describes the stillness of the town as the silent stars shine above. However, despite the quiet, the Light of Christ is shining in the dark streets. The verse ends with the idea that, on this Christmas night, the hopes and fears of all the years are met in Bethlehem.
The second verse speaks of the gift of Christ being given silently to human hearts. Even though the world may be full of sin, those who are meek and willing will receive him. The chorus then calls for Christ to come and abide with the people, to be close to them and draw near. The final verse is a prayer for the Holy Child to enter into their hearts, casting out their sins and being born anew. The Christmas angels are heard and proclaim the good news, inviting Christ to come and remain with them.
This song is a beautiful tribute to the miracle of Christmas and the birth of Christ. It speaks of the hope and peace that come with the arrival of the Holy Child, and the desire to have him abide with us always. The lyrics also highlight the humility and meekness required to receive the gift of Christ, and the universal nature of his blessings for all people.

O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love
O morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King
And Peace to men on earth

Micah 5
3Therefore Israel will be abandoned
until the time when she
HOLY EMANUELA
who is in labor bears a son,
IMMANUEL
and the rest of his brothers return
to join the Israelites.
4He will stand and shepherd his flock
in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they will live securely, for then his greatness
will reach to the ends of the earth.

This year on December 21 the Christmas Star is supposed to appear again. There hasnβt been a Christmas Star for 800 years according to NASA. That was back in 1220. That was between BC and AD right around the time of Jesus birth. That canβt be a coincidence! I think itβs a sign of hope π
