They named themselves after the popular crew cut haircut, one of the first connections made between pop music and hairstyle. While the crew-cut hair style came as a result of the name change, the original intent was that the name crew-cuts denoted the music they sang (pop) as opposed to Longhair (classical). They were most famous for their recording of The Chords "Sh-Boom."

The group moved from Mercury to RCA Records in 1958 and eventually broke up in 1964, but they all moved to the U.S. and reunited in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1977. In the 1990s they were inducted into the Juno Hall of Fame. In recent years, the three remaining members have appeared on a PBS special filmed in Atlantic City's Trump's Taj Mahal. The program. "Magic Moments: The Best of '50s Pop" continues to air as part of the fund raising efforts for the Public Broadcasting System.

I remember the furore and publicity over Elvis. Two of us Pilot Officers were ambling along when a Warrant Officer 1 started screaming. When he got closer he said very sarcastically to my 'oppo' "sorry sir, couldn't see your uniform for the hair". It was long and that was a lovely put-down. Needless to say it was round the Mess in a minute. He joined us crew cut crew! Love your pretty girl signature illustration.

Quite a pleasant recording altho I still like the Sonny James version best! Was Tab Hunter real? Too clean and pretty for us. Where are the Crew Cuts crew cuts? Popular in the military world as no one could say 'your 'air is too long, Mister.....'

That's what I did, and continue to do. I didn't have a girlfriend by 25 either, and although I've dated a few girls since then and made some friends, I've never met the girl meant for me and probably never will. So I know how you feel. There is no decent place to meet anyone here either. I just feel that love has passed me by, so I can only experience it in my dreams and imagination.
