1. The by far most popular group called The Diplomats (also known as Dipset) are a Harlem, New York-based group who previously signed to Roc-A-Fella Records, but now are signed to own label Diplomats Record. Founded by rappers Cam'ron and Jim Jones, the group released their debut album Diplomatic Immunity under their imprint Diplomat Records.
Diplomat Records also distribute artist Cam'ron through Asylum Records. Under Koch Entertainment, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, 40 Cal., Freekey Zekey, J.R. Writer, Hell Rell, Un Kasa and Jha Jha are also signed on as members of The Diplomats record label. London-based duo, S.A.S, are also part of The Diplomats. One of the defining elements of the Diplomats' music is the innovative slang they have incorporated into their lyrics. The broader hip-hop community has accepted and utilized many of their terms, including "doggie,", "no homo", "piff," "huff," "u mad?", "move the movement", "off' wit' Ya' Kufi Smacker", "goonies goo goo,", "duck tales", "family matters", and "coochie rap". They also coined the greeting, "What's Really Good?". Many of the rappers were signed, and were premiered in mixtapes, but the Diplomats did not become exclusive until 2003 with their cd Diplomatic Immunity. In previous music videos when Cam'ron was starting his career you could see fellow diplomats like Jim Jones or Freeky Zeeky. The Diplomats have also gained notable street credability through their mixtapes, especially in New York, and have made a small fortune through mixtape sales. The Diplomats’ song “40th Boys” is a rap song that revolves around braggadocio and the rough life that comes with the street life. The title “40th Boys” refers to the street gang which the rappers are associated with. The song is filled with violent lyrics and profanity, with each of the three rappers boasting about their ability to shoot their enemies. The chorus sings “all my real niggas pop it off” which indicates their willingness to shoot someone who thwarts their path to success. They make it clear that they are only living their life without fear because they have the strength and power to take down anyone who comes in their way.
A-Mafia's verse talks about his street life and how he is always ready to fight off attackers. He talks about how he always carries a weapon for protection and how he is always ready to shoot first. The chorus that follows his verse reiterates the fact that A-Mafia is a thug and that he will not hesitate to shoot anyone who gets in his way. Furthermore, A-Mafia brags about his wealth and how he attracts women to him with his wealth. He talks about how he doesn’t follow anyone's rules, and how he only follows his own set of rules.
40 Cal’s verse is about his own street life experience. He boasts about his wealth and popularity, the fact that he is famous, and how he attracts attention wherever he goes. 40 Cal brags about his ability to shoot straight, and he does not hesitate to remind his enemies that he is a deadly weapon. In addition, he talks about his willingness to fight for his money and survive in New York City’s rough neighbourhoods.
