1. The Dodos are an indie folk band from San Francisco, CA, United States, formed in 2005. Almost all of their albums (except the very first one) are credited to Dodos (without 'The'), but they made their recording début as The Dodos and are listed as such on streaming platforms, which is why most of their scrobbles end up here. The Dodos is the preferred spelling. The band has two core members: Meric Long (vocals, guitar) and Logan Kroeber (drums). They have released eight studio albums since mid-2006: Beware of the Maniacs (2006), Visiter (2008), Time to Die (2009), No Color (2011), Carrier (2013), Individ (2015), Certainty Waves (2018) and Grizzly Peak (2021).
2. Having evolved in late 1979 out of Swansea punk band The Urge, The Dodos were named after the ephedrine-laced asthma tablets, consisting of Dickie Evans (vocals), Phil Roberts (guitar), Anthony Reed (bass) and Steve 'Gagsy' Garland (drums). They contributed a song (1981's 'Blind To Fiction') to a rare compilation called Sex, Violence and the Eternal Truth.
3. The Dodos were a very short-lived British rock band of the late 1960s. They released just one single: 'I Made Up My Mind' b/w 'Can't Make It Out' (Polydor, 1967). Both sides were penned by the band's main songwriter, Alan Hawkshaw.

If your brother knew, he'd have my head
But I wouldn't care if I was dead
If I had the chance to hold your hand
But my love goes undeclared
Yeah, my love goes undeclared
And my love goes undeclared
Yeah, my love goes undeclared
You let me stay here for a week
On your couch but I would rather sleep
In your bed, or even better yet
We could run away and never rest
But my love stays undeclared
Yeah, my love stays undeclared
Yeah, my love stays undeclared
Yeah, my love stays undeclared
The lyrics to The Dodos' song Undeclared are focused around unrequited love. The singer is in love with someone they can't be with, and their love remains undeclared. The opening lyrics, "I like the way you hold your head," suggest that the singer is deeply in love with this person, even just small things about them like the way they hold their head. However, the singer knows that they can't be with this person, as they add "If your brother knew, he'd have my head". This implies that there are barriers between the singer and the person they love, which makes it impossible for them to be together.
Despite this, the singer still longs to be close to this person, something they express in the lyric "But I wouldn't care if I was dead, If I had the chance to hold your hand." This shows how deep their love runs, and how much they would be willing to do just to be with them for a moment. The second verse shows that the singer has spent some time with this person, staying on their couch for a week. However, they long for more, wishing to be in their bed or better yet, to run away together. The song ends with the repeated chorus of "my love goes undeclared" and "my love stays undeclared", showing that despite their feelings, the singer knows that their love can never be.
Overall, The Dodos' Undeclared is a poignant and powerful exploration of unrequited love. The singer is deeply in love with someone they can't be with, and the lyrics capture the pain, longing, and hopelessness that comes with this kind of love.
