1. The Dodos are an indie folk band from San Francisco, CA, United States, formed in 2005. Almost all of their albums (except the very first one) are credited to Dodos (without 'The'), but they made their recording début as The Dodos and are listed as such on streaming platforms, which is why most of their scrobbles end up here. The Dodos is the preferred spelling. The band has two core members: Meric Long (vocals, guitar) and Logan Kroeber (drums). They have released eight studio albums since mid-2006: Beware of the Maniacs (2006), Visiter (2008), Time to Die (2009), No Color (2011), Carrier (2013), Individ (2015), Certainty Waves (2018) and Grizzly Peak (2021).
2. Having evolved in late 1979 out of Swansea punk band The Urge, The Dodos were named after the ephedrine-laced asthma tablets, consisting of Dickie Evans (vocals), Phil Roberts (guitar), Anthony Reed (bass) and Steve 'Gagsy' Garland (drums). They contributed a song (1981's 'Blind To Fiction') to a rare compilation called Sex, Violence and the Eternal Truth.
3. The Dodos were a very short-lived British rock band of the late 1960s. They released just one single: 'I Made Up My Mind' b/w 'Can't Make It Out' (Polydor, 1967). Both sides were penned by the band's main songwriter, Alan Hawkshaw.

I know we're all alone and still
You come to brush this gray aside
I know, I know, it's fate I feel
You answer to our hungry eyes
I hope, I hope this must be real
We need you now, we need to heal
Oh no, oh no, oh God, where'd you go?
You give us love, we have to hide
I know, I know, it's shades of gray
You give us hope and give us strife
I know, I know, this price we pay
You tell me no, you ask me why
I know, I know, your patient ways
You wait until we see the light
Oh no, oh no, oh God, where'd you go?
Oh, God
And tell us how to feel inside
No lies, no lies, no lies
And let me look upon that sign
With eyes, with eyes, with eyes
And tell me how you wear that crown
Of right, of right, of right
You lift us up then let us down
We die, we die, we die
You answer to the wrong and wide
I know, I know, the faith we feel
You give us strength and make us fight
I know, I know, we're supposed to kill
You pit us up on different sides
I know, I know, that's just your will
I wonder if you'll wait until
Oh no, oh no, this place will explode
You live above this great big sky
I hear it's nice, it's always spring
I've come to ask you for advice
I know you're busy for a king
You tell me once, I ask you twice
How long, how long, before they sing?
We did the things you said, alright
Oh no, oh no, oh God, where'd you go?
Oh, God
And tell us how to feel inside
No lies, no lies, no lies
And let us look upon that sign
With eyes, with eyes, with eyes
And tell me how you wear that crown
Of right, of right, of right
You lift us up then let us down
We die, we die, we die
We die, we die, we die
The Dodos' song "God?" is a beautiful yet melancholic plea to a seemingly absent deity. The lyrics express a deep sense of isolation and desperation, with lines such as "No one to hold, no place to lie" and "You give us love, we have to hide." The singer acknowledges that despite feeling alone, they still hold onto hope that God will show up and bring healing. There is a sense of frustration and confusion in the lines "You pit us up on different sides, I know, I know, that's just your will" and "You lift us up then let us down, we die, we die, we die." The song seems to be asking the question: where is God in our suffering and brokenness?
The repetition of lines such as "I know, I know" and "oh no, oh no, oh God, where'd you go?" create a feeling of desperation and a longing for answers. The song expresses a desire for God to reveal himself and provide guidance, saying "And tell us how to feel inside, no lies, no lies, no lies, and let us look upon that sign, with eyes, with eyes, with eyes." Overall, "God?" is a thought-provoking and emotional exploration of faith, doubt, and life's big questions.

I think there is a mistake in the lyrics. "You tell me no, you ask me why" I hear " You tell me no, I ask you why". It may be just an impression but take time to listen. It's at 1:25.
