Though many of the songs on The Soft Parade (including Wishful Sinful) were somewhat unpopular - at least amongst fans of the harder, bluesier Doors sound - at the time of the original release, many music fans today find the album to be a skillful expansion of the Doors' musical abilities.
The song was covered by pianist George Winston on his album Night Divides the Day - The Music of the Doors.

Water covers everything in blue
Coolin' water
Wishful sinful
Our love is beautiful to see
I know where I would like to be
Right back where I came
Water covers you
Wishful, sinful, wicked you
Can't escape the blue
Magic risin'
Sun is shinin' deep beneath the sea
But not enough for you and me and sunshine
Love to hear the wind cry
Wishful sinful
Our love is beautiful to see
I know where I would like to be
Right back where I came
Wishful, sinful, wicked blue
Water covers you
Wishful, sinful, wicked you
Can't escape the blue
Love to hear the wind cry
Love to hear you cry, yeah, yeah
The Doors' Wishful Sinful is a song about an all-consuming love, that is almost too good to be true. The singer describes how their love is so beautiful, that it's like crystal-clear water that covers everything in blue - "wishful crystal, water covers everything in blue, coolin' water". The love they share is their own personal paradise, a place where they want to be - "our love is beautiful to see, I know where I would like to be, right back where I came". However, the blue waters that represent their love are also symbolic of something darker - "wishful, sinful, wicked blue, water covers you, wishful, sinful, wicked you, can't escape the blue". This could possibly be a reference to the depth of their emotions, which are consuming them whole and almost crushing them.
The second verse shifts the focus to the elements around the lovers, as if they are in their own magical bubble - "magic risin', sun is shinin' deep beneath the sea, but not enough for you and me and sunshine". The love between them is so complete that they don't require the sun's warmth and light. They love the sound of the wind, and even the sound of their partner crying - "love to hear the wind cry, love to hear you cry, yeah, yeah". The song finishes with a repeated chorus of their love being wishful and sinful, highlighted by the blue waters surrounding them.
Overall, The Doors' Wishful Sinful is a song about a love that encompasses everything, almost to the point of being overwhelming. The blue waters of their love represent both the beauty and danger of their emotions, while their desire for each other is so complete that they don't need anything else apart from themselves.
