Come on

Come along
Come on and get up, get down

[Chorus]
(Get up) and get down
Get up out of your seat
(Get up) and get down
Get up and move your feet

(Come on and) rise, rise, rise
Shake your hips
(Get up) let me see you

(I wanna see you)
Let me see your tight wire come alive

(Get up) you ain't too old
(You ain't too hip) (get up)
I ain't asking for a cartwheel
(A somersault) or no flip

I just want you to

[Chorus]

(Get up) now look at mama
(Look at mama)
She'll tear you up (get up)
To make sure you feel the cool
I get to turn the music up

(Get up) clap your hands
Stomp your feet (get up)
Keep in time with the music
Get on down with the beat

I just want you to

[Chorus]

Come on

[Chorus]

Come on and get down
Get up and get down
Come on, girl, oh, ooh

[Chorus x2]

Overall Meaning

The Dramaticsโ€™s song, Get Up and Get Down, is a lively tune that encourages listeners to get up and dance. The chorus repeatedly calls for the audience to โ€œget up and get down,โ€ which means to stand up and dance energetically. The song opens with an invitation to โ€œcome onโ€ and โ€œcome along,โ€ both of which encourage people to join in the fun. The chorus then takes over, making it clear that the song is all about dancing and having fun. The lyrics are focused on feeling the rhythm, shaking your hips, and letting the music move you.

The song specifically calls out to different parts of the body, such as hips and feet, and references different dance moves like clapping and stomping. It encourages people to let loose and let the music move them. The verses address potential hesitations, as the lyrics assert that the listener isnโ€™t too old or too unhip to join in the dance party.

In summary, Get Up and Get Down is an upbeat and joyful song that encourages listeners to leave their reservations behind and dance energetically to the music.

Way back in the day when Frankstown Avenue in the city of Pittsburgh had a lot of Bars, and you passed them on the way to and from school, the Jukeboxes would be playing this song, cause the doors would be open, and you just had to stop in your tracks just to dance on the sidewalk cause it sounded so good. MEMORIES! Pennsylvania that is. Love the DRAMATICS for all their great music and songs.
