Formed in 1958, The Fiestas signed to Old Town Records in 1959 after the label's owner, Hy Weiss, overheard the group singing in a bathroom adjacent to his office in Harlem. Their debut single was 1959's "So Fine"; the tune was a hit in the U.S., hitting #3 on the Black Singles chart and #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. A series of soul singles followed from the group, among them "Last Night I Dreamed", "You Could Be My Girlfriend", "Anna", and "Think Smart", but only 1962's "Broken Heart" managed to chart, hitting #18 on the Black Singles chart.

Leaving Old Town, the group later recorded for Strand and Vigor, releasing music into the mid-1970s.

Boy it is great to be "old" and remember this song. I picture myself in my mind, dancing with James Dean. He was a dancer you know. One of the greatest songs of all time. As a woman, I like to wake up from a dream holding a man, or laughing, or having him for a gourmet candlelight dinner at my home. But now I'm single again, (widow of US Marine, Purple Heart) so it is just "dreams."

T-Bus There are various re issues on C D. The first of these, on a 'major / notable' re issue label, had this track fade out, prematurely. Another had a good quality dub of the entire original. "Ya pays Ya $, and Ya takes Ya chances."

As a White Boy from Newark I was very lucky to enjoy impromptu sessions in the Alley Way next to the Barrel Club on Bergen Street in Newark Sometime after mid nite The Fiestas would stretch their legs out back and chime in. I remember Jimmy was base and I think Randy was falsetto . I also remember Jimmy had a Lead he did on a song I think he wrote called "A Hobos Prayer. I was only 15 ( but a Big Guy) and although the only WB around I was always treated with kindness and a little respect for my knowledge of doowop, but I don't think we called it that then !

You're just kidding, right? The countertenor - or "falsetto," as you call it - is the heart of the song and not a mere "hook." The whole point in making the recording was to showcase the lead-singer's countertenor voice. It's the singer, not the song. Do you also think that the Four Seasons should have had Frankie Valli sing only in his natural, speaking voice? Do you know nothing at all about the use of the countertenor voice in black song? Haven't you noticed that every black singing group of this type has a countertenor, whether he sings lead or not? Apparently not. Listen to "Golden Teardrops," by The Flamingos.
