Rhythm guitarist Dave Pritchard, bass guitarist Greg Masters and drummer Roger Spencer were the core of a band initally known as Billy King and the Nightriders, then later known as Mike Sheridan and the Nightriders and briefly as just The Nightriders.
In 1966 they advertised for a new guitarist/vocalist, Jeff Lynne applied and joined the band. After releasing one single they changed their name to Idle Race. Under Jeff Lynne's leadership they released two albums that sold poorly, despite support from John Peel and Kenny Everett.
In 1970, Jeff Lynne decided to join The Move so he and Roy Wood could work on what would eventually become Electric Light Orchestra
The remaining members of The Idle Race recruited 2 new members and released one further album. After Greg Masters left the group they became The Steve Gibbons Band.
Come With Me
The Idle Race Lyrics

It's oh so easy for me to see
We can be
Close together, for always forever
You'll never believe but it's true
You will see
The happy corners where we will be
It's for real
That's not true don't be blue they're for you
Ooowah, ooohwah, oooh-wah (etc.)
Can you feel
It's spinning round like a great big wheel
It's for real
I'll sing to you all the songs that we knew
That's not true don't be blue they're for you
Ahhhahhh,
Come with me
Come with me
Come with me
It's oh so easy for me to see
Come with me
When I find that you're not on my mind
That's the time I will say come with me
The Idle Race's "Come With Me" is a cheerful and upbeat song about love and togetherness. The song opens with the invitation, "Come with me," suggesting an adventure for two people who can be close forever. The singer emphasizes the ease of their journey, stating that it's "oh so easy for me to see." He urges the other person to trust him because they will be happy together. The chorus repeats that the singer will sing all the happy songs they both know, and the lyrics assure the listener that these songs are not just for show but for them. The lines "Can you feel/ It's spinning round like a great big wheel" evoke a feeling of joy and excitement that the two are experiencing together, and the repetition of "It's for real" emphasizes the authenticity of their bond. Finally, the lyrics conclude with the assurance that the person should come with the singer whenever they are not on his mind.
The song's lyrics are simple and repetitive, but the meaning is clear, relatable, and joyous. The upbeat and snappy melody complements the lyrics, making it easy to imagine a happy couple dancing and enjoying each other's company. It is a perfect tune for upbeat moods and a testament to the delight of love.
