@caleb fowler "respectfully I don't think you know what critical race theorists teach to kids under 12."
Nothing, since they don't exist.
CRT is a lens of analysis, not an ideology.
And yeah you shouldn't teach it to children, but not because it's "sick", but because you need a lot of knowledge in sociology first.
It would be like teaching children about potassium gates when they don't even know what nerves are.

I learned in a recent debate Vaush did that apparently, there are parts of the world were people use the CRT label to do some weird racist BS that has nothing to do with it.
And, yeah, I agree those people should stop being racist, and also stop lying about sociology.
I suppose it's like how quacks use "Quantum" or "Energy" in ways that are wrong to steal people's money.

Maybe those are the people you meant with your comment, in which case I totally agree with you, I don't know exactly what they're teaching, but they should stop doing it.

@Jan Smitowicz, Author Cultural genocide is a contested term. But usually it refers to the method by which the genocide is achieved.

First, let's look at what genocide means:
The deliberate (intentional) killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.

Second, when a group commits cultural genocide, the goal is genocide.
China is committing cultural genocide in Xinjiang. When China is done, the people of Xinjiang will appear as Chinese.
The Chinese do this, because they believe that Han Chinese are superior and because they hate the people of Xinjiang. The goal is uniformity.
Therefore, cultural genocide in China will have the same effect as genocide.

Now let's analyze American slavery:
First, there were no laws in America forbidding slaves to practice their culture. Each region had its own rules and practices.

Second, some masters undoubtedly tried to deny the slaves their cultural identity.
However, research shows that slaves preserved part of their native culture and adopted new practices that were different from the culture of their masters. So the slave culture went on.

Conclusion:
There was never any attempt by the government to genocide the slaves (not even culturally).

Even if the masters tried to deny the slaves their cultural identity. The slaves weren't bought by the masters with the intention of destroying them culturally.

Even if it had been the priority, the slaves would never have passed off as white Americans, because they were slaves and had black skin.
Plus, America was already home to many cultures: Chinese, French, English.
So the cultural genocide would never have achieved its goal.

So even with the masters we lack the intention and the goal for a cultural genocide.

Adoption and cultural change are not cultural genocide unless they happen violently and with the aim of eliminating a large group of people.

Today, black culture is diverse, dominant, and ubiquitous. It differs from European culture and has its roots undeniably in slavery.

So even if there had been an attempt at cultural genocide, it was unsuccessful.

And even if it had succeeded, there would still have been African culture in Africa. So this shows again that the intention and the goal for a cultural genocide wasn't there.

Imagine making the story of Kate Stone's family into the illegal loss of their "private property" according to state law instead of HAVING 150 HUMAN SLAVES AT THEIR DISPOSAL!

"We're not racist, we just don't like critical race theory!"
"Okay, what's your alternative?"
".... racism."

caleb fowler

@Nerobyrne the definition may be a broad spectrum but there are parts of radical CRT that is being taught to kids. I need to look up those videos of vaush's that defends CRT. He is good at showing how the radicals on the right misinterpret stories.

@Nerobyrne respectfully I don't think you know what critical race theorists teach to kids under 12. Both are sick to teach to kids. I'm not saying all CRT is bad to teach to kids but some of it is worse than that text book vaush was showing. I'd prefer teachers to teach and not indoctrinate

Nerobyrne

@caleb fowler Yeah except whenever someone sais they "oppose critical race theory", they end up being racist.
Makes sense too, if you oppose looking at society through a lens of racial differences, I can't see a reason other than you wanting to maintain racial inequalities.

EDIT: Also, a lens of analysis is never wrong. At worst, it may lead to wrong conclusions, but you can't say that the way of looking at something is wrong. That's not how this works

caleb fowler

They are both soooo so wrong. It's not a party line thing. It doesn't have to he one or the other.

My mom works for McGraw hill, directly works with sales people in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Many MANY states are telling textbook companies to rewrite textbooks. Not just exclude critical race theory or rewrite history to be pro Christian, it’s get much worse. For example, there is a concept called “social emotional learning” which basically means instead of just baseline teaching facts, schools are trying to include exercise that help the students relate their subjects to their own life and the lives of their fellow students, it also teaches kids how to manage social relationships and their own emotions in order to also help them do better in school. So she sold MATH textbooks to Florida, and the state governor told them they are not allowed to have any “social emotional learning” at all. No passages about critical thinking, nothing mentioning emotional states or how to interact with and understand others or relate the subject being taught to your own life. They want to ban critical thinking basically. In a math textbook.

Hannah Gs

@Gavin Davis if you choose to see the concept of social emotional learning as that incredibly reductive, then even in that terrible straw-manned framework, yes. Feelings happen all the time to everyone. If the Pythagorean theorem is making you stressed out, that should be validated and addressed. Otherwise, you aren’t going to be able to understand it very well. Also, you are continuously ignoring the huge part of social emotional learning that takes these subjects and tries to relate them to real life or personal experiences and uses in order to get kids like you to actually give a shit at all about math inside and outside of the classroom.

Gavin Davis

@Hannah Gs is it neccesary to validate their emotions while the teacher is explaining the pythagorean equation tho.
