World Without Love
The Mavericks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Please lock me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside, where I hide
With my loneliness

I don't care what they say
I won't stay in a world without love
Birds sing out of tune
And rain clouds hide the moon

I'm OK here I'll stay
With my loneliness
I don't care what they say
I won't stay in a world without love

So I wait and in a while
I will see my true love smile
She may come I know not when
When she does I know

So baby until then
Please lock me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside, where I hide

With my loneliness
I don't care what they say
I won't stay in a world without love
So I wait and in a while

I will see my true love smile
She may come I know not when
When she does I know
So baby until then

Please lock me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside, where I hide
With my loneliness

I don't care what they say
I won't stay in a world without love
I don't care what they say
I won't stay in a world without love

I don't care what they say
I won't stay in a world without love

Overall Meaning

The Mavericks' "World Without Love" is a song that delves into the depths of loneliness and longing for love. The singer pleads to be locked away from the world that doesn't have love, a world that is bleak and devoid of hope. He yearns for love and promises to wait for it, even if he doesn't know when it will come, because the alternative is too painful to bear.

The singer's desperation is evident by the repetition of the phrase "I don't care what they say, I won't stay in a world without love." The world without love appears to be a world without meaning, where even nature is out of sync, with birds singing out of tune and rain clouds obscuring the moon. The singer seems resigned to his fate of loneliness but still holds on to the hope of finding his true love someday, and until then, he would rather stay locked away. The final refrain of "I won't stay in a world without love" reiterates the importance of love in the singer's life.

Overall, "World Without Love" is a poignant song that captures the essence of a desolate soul searching for love. The Mavericks' emotive delivery and the simple yet potent lyrics make it a timeless classic.

@robertsadler1766

All credit to Paul for writing it, P&G for popularizing it, but Raul Malo really DEFINES this song.

@stevebrown3660

Paul wrote it when he was 16. Never recorded by the Beatles. Paul did a 30 second demo in the early 60s and gave it to Peter Asher after he formed Peter and Gordon.

@davidcadams3001

doesn't this kind of prove just how good the song writing of LENNON & McCARTNEY really was ? -- a very good country band recording a beatles song that the beatles gave to PETER & GORDON totally totally awesome .....
