so many people hate on this movie but I fucking love it. This scene is so brilliant - can't imagine why people can't see this movie as its own entity. it is different from the stage musical but still awesome and wonderful in its own right.

Snokween1968 one of the best movies ever.

I worked on it, (special effects and lighting) in both in the park and in the big house, and having lived through the last of the sixties as a kid and having embraced all things Hippie, I loved it....and I'm not much into musicals. My number came up for the draft and at the same time...they ended it, I consider myself to have been blessed. The draft numbers issued in 1972 were never used the next year to call for induction into service, because the last call was December 7 and authority to induct expired on June 30, 1973.

I hear this and it gives me the Emory of being little I used to have my mom play this all the time when I listen to It I get chills I love it!

When it came out in 79 it was ranked the number 7 movie of the year by an aggregate score of critics. I felt good about that. I wrote to Milos Forman thanking him for making the film and he wrote back and sent me stills from the movie. Still one of my top 3 films of all time.

People who don't work, steal, do drugs, promiscuity, dirty, doing drugs, lying, stealing, impersonating people who have authority and special training, ignoring the government. People who defy structure. That's why the characters were hated. But such people were necessary. The unified defiance of conscious objectors led to doing away with the draft and this was the real way to not play into the government's hands by not going to war and going to jail instead. By going to war the government made money. By not going to war objectors demonstrated that the government was wrong and the objectors were not going to play into the government's hands.

It's interesting to notice how this song adds up beautifully to a different context than Nina Simone's version. Two great versions of a great song.

@rkuncin

I like this more.

@JaIch9999

I like Nina Simone's more.

Nina Simone's version says nobody can take that away from me. The opposite holds for this movie. What Berger is satisfied to have, his body IS TAKEN AWAY FROM HIM IN THE END. Berger lost control of his own life. He did what the government wanted him to do.
