Help Me Girl
The Outsiders Lyrics

Girl have you ever been hungry
So hungry that you had no pride?
Well I got that feeling
That biting, gnawing deep inside
It's a funny pain
One I can't explain
You gotta help me girl
Oh help me girl
'cause I'm going insane - hey hey
I know about all the good things
And what that long green stuff can buy
Right or wrong it's a groove girl
Yet somehow I'm not satisfied
You gotta show me the way
Turn my night into day
Oh help me girl
Oh help me girl
'cause I'm going insane
Oh, I need someone
Someone to comfort me
Be my someone
Be my reality girl

You gotta show me the way
And turn my night into day
Oh help me girl
Oh help me girl
'cause I'm going insane hey
Help me baby
Help me girl
Come on into my nights
Come on to to me today
I said help me baby
Help me girl
Come on into my days
Come on way

I said help me baby
Help me girl
Come on enjoy the nights
Come one
Help me baby say come on

Help me girl
Help me baby come on into my days
Come on...

The harpsichord in this almost has a Left Banke feel to it, but Sonny Geraci had a different vocal style than Steve Martin Caro. May they both RIP.

Brian Washington

Pretty good, but the Animals had the the definitive version.

Brian Washington

@rsands9 It was.

And this was the original I think

agree brutha - the commanding voice from Erick made me like this song so much when it came out; just a young rebellious punk then but have learned my lessons through the school of hard knocks

On this day in 1967 {January 24th} the Outsiders performed "Help Me Girl" on the Dick Clark produced ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program, 'Where The Action Is"...
Three months earlier on October 23rd, 1966 the song entered Billboard's Top 100 chart at position #90, seven weeks later it would peak at #37* {for 1 week} and it spent ten weeks on the Top 100...
Besides "Help Me Girl", the Ohio quintet had three other Top 100 records; "Time Won't Let Me" {#5 in 1966}, "Girl In Love" {#21 in 1966}, and "Respectable" {#15 in 1966}...
Lead singer Sonny Geraci charted more two times, as featured singer for Climax, the records were "Precious and Few" {#3 in 1972} and "Life and Breathe" {#52 in 1972}...
Sonny Geraci, born Emmett Peter Geraci, passed away at the age of 70 on February 5th, 2017...
And the Outsiders' guitarist Tom King died on April 23rd, 2011 at age 68...
May they both R.I.P.
* The week the Outsiders' "Help Me Girl" peaked at #37, the Animals version of the song was at #49, two weeks later it peaked at #29 {for 1 week} and it stayed on the chart for nine weeks...

Sonny sounds like he's channeling Johnny Rivers. Nice...

@thewillismon Loved this Outsiders!! Actually, neither was the original, although some say the Animals recorded it first. It was the B side of 'See See Rider' which charted here in Chicago in Oct., '66. The Outsider's version was the one that stayed on our charts Nov. through Dec. '66 :)
