It is believed that the soldiers fainted and were paid to keep quiet and reassigned to another city but they could have been killed for what they witnessed. This scene is so moving. You see the Archangel Michael come down and hold the soldiers at bay while Gaberial rolled away the stone. Glory to GOD in the highest and Peace on earth to those he loves. ✝️🙏

Absolutely love this scene and so many others from this series.

In light of what God is doing with the creation, funding and distribution of The Chosen (outside of depending on the traditional media networks). I wish the creators of A.D: The Bible Continues would bring the series back and finish the story of the New Testament Church.

This series was so well done, I really miss it since hearing the news that low ratings contributed to it's cancellation by NBC back in 2015. How can we get Roma Downey and Mark Burnett the creators of the series to reconsider reviving it after 7 years?

Of course don't know if they could get everyone involved in it's original production back together again. 😢 😭 😢

This is the 1st time I have seen this movie. I always watch The Passion of the Christ and History Channel's The Bible at Easter. This scene alone sends chills through me. I need to add this one to my list. Is it out on DVD?

The Roman soldiers sealed the tomb. Then, they stood guard for the next three days in four-hour shifts of four soldiers each.
How many Roman soldiers were involved we do not know, but it could have been as many as 50 or more and also a number of soldiers from the temple guard, i.e. Jewish soldiers who worked at the Temple. What did they see? We don't know. I'd like to think it was something like this. This was a fantastic series..

The soldiers you see are the highest trained and most disciplined of the Roman empire during its entire history. They are soldiers of the first century A.D., of the Pax Romana, under the emperors Augustus Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero. Nothing in the ancient world could withstand their power except perhaps parts of the world where the Romans saw no interest in colonizing because there was nothing there (like Germany). To see this group of what would have been a Roman governor’s private guard,—especially in Jerusalem where they needed some of the best disciplined and most ruthless legionnaires—part of Pilate’s own cohort, cower in such a way shows that no army and no man can compare to that of God. Seriously, almost NOBODY in the 1st. century AD would dare take on the Romans. Except that angel of God!

The Jews eventually did; and as Lord Jesus said, the temple was destroyed, and Titus and Vespasian crushed any further hope of the Jews throwing off the Roman yoke. See Josephus’ book “The Jewish War,” I believe it’s called. Just an amazing scene that demonstrates the power of God.

En Nodi Of course many ancient civilizations had powerful militaries, yet if you look at the world of antiquity at that time, provided you have a competent general (keywords “competent general”) 1st century AD Roman military were experts at pitched battles, sieges, and counter insurgency...in almost any climate. That’s what the records tell us. But I don’t know about the Chinese because they never fought them. Kush was already in decline around the 60s AD and the Romans determined it such a backwater they didn’t bother with it (nothing profitable from a desert kingdom in decline below Nubia). They were more powerful during the early reign of Augustus in the 1st century BC then they declined so rapidly in economic and military aspects that Nero decided “not worth conquering.” I find it similar to the Germans. The Romans had a lot of trouble with the Germanic tribes but ultimately even they thought Germany nothing but a swamp. I will say Augustus and successors were smart enough to keep the Rhine as a boundary. And, admittedly they did have trouble fighting them. Marcus Aurelius WAS poised to conquer them after many years of war though he died, and Commodus make a quick treaty throwing it all away so he could hurry back to Rome and live it up. It would have been interesting to see China vs Rome, or Alexander the great’s military after all his conquests vs Rome however he died before that could come to fruition and the Wars of the Diadochi ended that vision of his. Rome intelligently stayed quiet and watched his generals tear apart Alexander’s empire. Then the Romans started to come on the scene as antiquity’s mightiest. I don’t know... I used to really enjoy reading about the Romans but ever since I became a Christian I’m soured by their endless persecuting emperors until after Constantine. I’m not a great authority on this subject I just read a lot.

Roman soldiers wore their swords on their right hip so they wouldn't have to draw a two-edged sword across their bodies when pressed in a shield wall (all shields held on the left arm). I would presume the commander of the Lord's army (recorded in the Biblical book of Joshua) would do the same.

From all the beings in the cosmos, physically and in the spiritual realm, no one besides God can stand up and match St. Michael's power. Michael is the Celestial Chief of Heaven's armies so think about that. ;-) The devil is no match against the Angel's let a lone Michael. The Roman soldiers were VERY lucky that St. Michael just decided to flash his sword for a brief moment toward them, and not attack them. Then again why would he? They are just Humans. These soldiers rely on their weapons while St. Michael uses divine power.

The rolling back of the stone is only mentioned in Mathews gospel. And it very much sounds like what the movie showed. In fact the movie left out the earthquake and replaced it with a flaming ball of fire. What this Angel looked like only the romans soldiers can say. And they just made up a story of being asleep I believe because there was no way Pontus Pilate was going to believe them If they told what really happened. This should not be confused with the 2 angels mentioned later that appeared to Mary Magdalene and told her that Jesus has risen. It’s to bad we don’t have one of soldiers account of what that first angel looked like,. It must have been magnificent. The movie did there best to make him look magnificent. He looked awesome. And I love that they made him a black man. The man that had to carry the cross for Jesus when he couldn’t anymore was apparently a black man according to Billy Graham..Jesus was a not White man, or was he a black man. But he was a darker color like the people of his land, Billy Graham said “Christianity is not just a white mans religion nor is it a black mans religion. It’s a world religion. He belongs to the world” .

AD was a terrible mini-series. Very, very flawed when it came to history. Only good thing I can say about it were the actors playing Caiaphas and Peter, but it is a series best left forgotten. BTW, Jesus never needed an angel to roll the stone away for Him to leave. The stone was rolled away just so people could see the tomb was empty.

I kid you not in a night vision when i was in a fasting 2 of this type of warrior angels where before me after Lord gave we legs like in doe Psalm 18 to catch demon that stole something from me.The only difference is that they had like tunic that was colored like wine that was diagonally strethed from left shoulder to right side, but same armour on them and cloack on top of head was slightly beneath eyes and i could not see their eyes but they were mighty in stature and when i returned most precious stone that i had in my hand, vault appeared from the beneath the surface and one of those 2 angels placed that stone in vault and he told me telepatically THIS THING WON T BE STOLEN FROM YOU ANYMORE.
