Everyday With You
The Pietasters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Never thought that going there was wrong
The first time I saw your face
I knew that you would be my own
On some things we may never agree
But as long as you're around
Your secrets safe with me

Everyday with you is always good for me
Though I have to go I never want to leave
With you here

Wonder what you're doing when I'm gone
Even though it may sound bad
Hope that you're all alone
There's nobody that can take your place
And when I come back for you
Disappear without a trace

Everyday with you is always good for me
Though I have to go I never want to leave
With you here

Where else would I want to be

Overall Meaning

than lost inside your eyes
You're everything I need
So I'll just close my eyes

The lyrics of The Pietasters' song, "Everyday With You," is a declaration of the singer's love and devotion to his significant other. It starts with the singer expressing that he never thought going to them was wrong and that he knew the moment he saw their face, they would be "my own." The singer then admits that they may not agree on everything, but as long as their significant other is near him, their secrets will be safe with him.

When the singer is away, he wonders what his significant other is doing and hopes that they are alone. He confesses that there is no one who can take his significant other's place, and when he returns to them, he hopes they will disappear without a trace. He then ends his proclamation of love with the iconic lines, "Everyday with you is always good for me. Though I have to go, I never want to leave with you here. Where else would I want to be than lost inside your eyes? You're everything I need so I'll just close my eyes."

on Set Me Up

The song is about former DC mayor, Marion Barry.

On January 18, 1990, Barry was arrested with a former girlfriend, Hazel Diane Moore, in a sting operation at the Vista International Hotel by the FBI and D.C. police for crack cocaine use and possession. Moore was an FBI informant when she invited Barry to the hotel room and insisted that he smoke freebase cocaine before they had sex, while agents in another room watched on camera, waiting for Barry to accept her offer. During the videotaped arrest, Barry says of Moore, "Bitch set me up.”
