The Plot in You have released one EP and four studio albums. Their EP Wife Beater was released in 2010, followed by their debut studio album First Born in 2011, and second studio album Could You Watch Your Children Burn in 2013. On July 17, 2015, the band announced their signing with StaySick Recordings and Happiness in Self Destruction was released on October 16, 2015. On June 15, 2017, they parted ways with StaySick Recordings and signed to Fearless Records while also announced their fourth studio album Dispose, which was released on February 16, 2018. Their fifth studio album, Swan Song, was released on September 17, 2021.
The Plot In You continue to move forward on their fifth full-length album and second for Fearless
Records, Swan Song. The Ohio quartet— Landon Tewers [vocals], Josh Childress [guitar], Ethan Yoder
[bass], and Michael Cooper [drums]—stare down years of negativity, soured friendships,
disappointment, and mistakes and flush it all away in the wake of hammering distortion, towering
melodies, cinematic production, and unapologetically cathartic lyrics. Ascending to the apex of an eight-
year grind, the band reached critical mass on 2018’s DISPOSE. The standout “FEEL NOTHING” exploded
with 28 million US streams, while the project eclipsed 55 million US streams. Billboard raved, “DISPOSE
is the band’s most polished and cohesive work to date,” and Alternative Press noted, “DISPOSE makes it
clear that TPIY challenge both the listeners and themselves more and more with each release.” Grading
the album “9.0-out-of-10,” Rock Sound predicted it “should finally – and deservedly – make The Plot In
You a name that everyone knows.” They supported the record by hitting the road with Underoath, The
Amity Affliction, Like Moths To Flames, Sum 41, and more. After racking up over 100 million streams and
receiving praise from Billboard, Rock Sound, Alternative Press, and more, the group wave off darkness
with unassuming confidence and clarity on Swan Song ignited by the single “Face Me.”

The Plot in You Lyrics

The same hands that erased him
I've lived in metaphors
Why don't they question a thing?
I've said it all before
They follow religiously
What if they truly knew?
How much I led them astray?
Knowing your soul isn't safe
(Not safe, not safe, not safe)
I'm just a paradigm
A flawless excuse to never analyze
The form of abuse
When will they recognize?
They jeopardize morality
They're following no one they should idolize
Ooh, we stand like Gods amongst weak men
Could we save them? Is there interest?
What is my voice to you? Do I give something you need?
Grant me my solitude or manifest like disease
You want the painful truth? I never came here to serve
And if you're still confused, look to my words for the proof
I'm just a paradigm
A flawless excuse to never analyze
The form of abuse
When will they recognize?
They jeopardize morality
They're following no one they should idolize
We're all just venturing aimless
With hopes to transcend
If there's a price on the answer
You're just a number to them
(That stupid motherfucker)
Just a number to them
We stand like Gods amongst weak men
Do we save them? Is there interest?
I'm just a paradigm
A flawless excuse to never analyze
The form of abuse
When will they recognize?
They jeopardize morality
They're following no one they should idolize
The lyrics of "Paradigm" by The Plot in You convey a sense of frustration and disillusionment with society's blind adherence to established norms and beliefs. The singer reflects on the power they hold over their followers, who unquestioningly follow their every word. However, instead of using this influence for good, the singer feels guilty for leading them astray and compromising their morality. They find it difficult to face the person addressing in the song, aware that their soul is not safe in their hands.
The singer sees themselves as nothing more than a paradigm, a perfect excuse to never question or analyze their own actions. They highlight the abuse that comes with such power and question when people will recognize the harm they are causing. The lyrics also touch upon the notion of idolizing the wrong individuals, suggesting that the people being followed are not deserving of the respect and admiration bestowed upon them.
The chorus emphasizes the singer's position of superiority, likening themselves and those like them to gods amongst weak men. They question whether they can save these weak souls, questioning their own interest and intention behind their actions. They ask what their voice means to those who follow them and whether they provide something that is truly needed or if they are merely a manifestation of a harmful influence. The singer asserts that they never intended to serve anyone, and those who are confused about their motives should look to their words for proof.
