Into was released in 2001 and went double platinum in Finland debuting at #1. The first single F-F-F-Falling was #1 in Finland during three months in early 2001. The second single Chill reached the #2 place in Finland. The Rasmus toured Scandinavia and Europe along with HIM and Roxette that year to promote the album. The band finally gained international fame with their 2003 album Dead Letters which went gold and platinum in several countries, accompanied with the single In the Shadows which reached #1 in a number of countries. iTunes Music Store offered the track as one of its free singles, a positive public response prompted many listeners to buy the rest of the album. Guilty was released in 2004 and was the last single of the album. The three other singles; In My Life, First Day of My Life and Funeral Song also received mostly favourable reviews and response. During the 2004 Reading Festival in England, the band was pelted with plastic bottles filled with urine and mud (an act reserved for the worst band on the bill each year) until they eventually walked offstage when immediate medical attention was required for Eero's eye.

Trigger
The Rasmus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
From the ashes
Like the cruellest
Flames of fury
Like a crystal
This love crashes
Against the concrete
Shaking you and me
Where do we go?
Where do we go from here?
We could have gone so far,
Gone so high!
You broke my trigger
Gone so high!
You broke my trigger
My clip is empty
No ammunition
Used all my
Weapons on you
Like a soldier
Who failed the mission
In my condition
The message won't get through
Where do we go?
Where do we go from here?
We could have gone so far,
Gone so high!
You broke my trigger
I saw it coming
I saw it rising
It blocked my view
And poisoned you
Don't pretend
Comprehend
Baby I'm tired of facing the end
Where do we go?
Where do we go from here?
I'm just so tired of facing the end
We could have gone so high,
But you broke my trigger
Broke my trigger
You broke my trigger
The Rasmus's song Trigger tells the story of a relationship that has fallen apart. The storm rising from the ashes and the cruel flames of fury symbolize the intensity and the chaos of their love. The love that crashes like a crystal against concrete conveys the fragility and the sudden collapse of their relationship. The lyrics then ask where they go from here, as they could have gone so far and so high, but the trigger has been broken. The second verse speaks from the perspective of someone who has used up all their weapons on this love and has failed to fulfill their mission. They feel empty and worn out, having seen the end coming and poisoned by the toxicity of the relationship. The end of the song repeats the line "you broke my trigger" signifying the damage that has been done and the inability to move forward.
The metaphorical language of the lyrics creates a vivid and memorable image of a relationship imploding. The idea of a trigger being broken implies an act of violence or betrayal, somewhere along the line the trust has been broken and cannot be restored. Similarly, the idea of a soldier who has used all their weapons on love suggests an emotional battlefield, where the stakes were high and there were no winners.
