Since forming in 2007, the band's combination of danceable rock and soulful songwriting (and brilliantivity) has come to life through a meticulously-crafted and ever-evolving live performance. The band has been instrumental in the growth of New Orleansβ burgeoning indie rock scene, and they have achieved success and notoriety in the cityβs competitive musical landscape.
The Revivalists have proven themselves as a live act. They have managed to advance from low-profile local gigs to extensive touring, developing a loyal fan base at home and across the Gulf Coast Region and gaining footholds nationally. Abroad, they have commanded such venues as The Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), Sullivan Hall (New York City), Toadβs Place (New Haven, CT), and Smithβs Olde Bar (Atlanta, GA). At home, The Revivalists are regulars at The Howlinβ Wolf, The Republic, and the legendary Tipitinaβs. They have shared stages with such notable acts as Perpetual Groove, Marco Benevento, Rebirth Brass Band, Ivan Nevilleβs Dumpstaphunk, The Lee Boys and Snarky Puppy. Additionally, they have established themselves as an engaging festival act, winning over audiences at French Quarter Fest, Crawfest and Foburg Festival in New Orleans, Hamstock Barbecue and Music Festival in Ridgeland, MS, and The Duke Ellington Jazz Festival in Washington, DC. Most recently, The Revivalists played the 2010 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. There, they caught the attention of Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke, who wrote about their performance on his blog on rollingstone.com.
The Revivalists have also grown as studio musicians. Their first release was listed as an editorβs pick in both the Jam and American Traditional Rock categories on CDBaby.com, despite being a humble five-song EP. Their second release, Vital Signs, is both the bandβs first full-length album and a significant step forward in terms of production and scale. The young band was privileged to record under the guidance of Grammy Award-winning producer Chris Finney, whose resumΓ© ranges from Dr. John to R.E.M. Vital Signs is the result of this collaboration. Soon after its release, Vital Signs became the top-selling album on CDBaby in the American Traditional Rock category, and was quickly selected to be featured in their newsletter.

The Revivalists Lyrics

One vow to the other now she's changing names
Two bottles of wine bought from St. James
Yeah I know that girl with the wandering eyes
She don't feel the same
All those pretty girls
I know the score
That's just not the game I'm playing
See, All those pretty girls
Around the world can see
The tides are turning
And it's not just make believe
Do it now
Oh baby (oh baby)
Come on and celebrate
Let's go and celebrate now (now)
Oh baby (oh baby)
Come on and celebrate
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Everybody's talking
Just talkin' talkin' talkin' shit
Shoulda listened to your mother
Gotta take care of your business
Should've seen the signs you know
Coldcocked on the dance floor
Now your only visit's conjugal
But out here on the west coast
All those pretty girls
Who fall in love are saying
I know the score
That's just not the game I'm playing
All those pretty girls
Around the world can see
The tides are turning
And it's not just you and me
Do it now (now)
Oh baby (oh baby)
Come on and celebrate
Let's go and celebrate now (now)
Oh baby (oh baby)
Come on and celebrate
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
So do it now (now)
Oh baby (oh baby)
Come on and celebrate
Let's go and celebrate now (now)
Oh baby (oh baby)
Come on and celebrate
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na na na na na
The lyrics to The Revivalists' song "Celebration" tell a story of love and change. The opening lines, "They got married in a hurricane / One vow to the other now she's changing names," suggest a relationship that started amidst chaos but is now undergoing a significant transformation. The mention of the hurricane symbolizes the stormy nature of their union. The line about changing names could mean that one partner is taking on a new identity after marriage, representing a shift in their individuality.
The second verse introduces a girl with wandering eyes who doesn't feel the same anymore. This could be an indication that one or both partners are no longer committed to the relationship. The following lines reveal that there are other pretty girls around the world who understand the game and the changing tides. This suggests that the singer is aware of the shifting dynamics in relationships and is not interested in playing by the same rules as others. The repeated chorus of "Do it now, oh baby, come on and celebrate" creates an atmosphere of urgency and encourages the listener to embrace the present moment and find joy despite the challenges they may face.
Overall, "Celebration" explores themes of change, disillusionment, and the need to find happiness amidst uncertainty. It portrays a relationship in flux and encourages the listener to celebrate despite the circumstances.
