Maria was always my favorite of OTMA, she was apparently incredibly strong. When no advisors could be found, she was the one who carried Alexei. She could lift him with one arm. She was incredibly compassionate, and a dedicated protector of her brother and her parents. Thatโ€™s why she volunteered to go to Siberia before her siblings. In a way, despite the horribleness of it, itโ€™s almost fitting in a way that her and Alexei were buried together, and are still apart from the rest of the family. Itโ€™s almost like Maria is still saying โ€œI can protect Alexei.โ€ And I bet her parents would be comforted to know that sheโ€™s there with him.

I believe her and Alexie were the closest. I completely agree with you. I've heard most people say she was weak but I dont think so.. she was a pillar for her family, always and forever.

Anastasia was super close to Alexei but Maria like all of her sisters, adored their little sunshine so much.
But Maria took after their grandfather, Alexander III, a tall burly man (he allegedly lifted a train cart roof off his family after an accident he was in!). During the execution, she was said to have been trying to break the storage room doors down, and that is just so heartbreaking to me. Maskha was a black sheep at times, O&T called her their stepsister, while A. could care for her a lot but M. would go around after her apologizing for her behavior.
Nicholas once said he thought she was going to sprout wings because of how much of an angel she was. (she stole a cookie and he didn't even get mad, it's one of my favorite quotes about her)

@Sofia Berrux's Subs Nope, he was close to Maria and Anastasia. But at the time of their deaths he was closest to Anastasia. She was a Tom boy who loved getting into mischief. So of coarse Alexei bonded with her

My mom always said I looked like a reincarnation of Maria Romanov haha

John Valiegal

That's a very touching perspective. Thanks

My great grandpa was serving the imperial army in the cossack division and when the uprising started, he was on an execution list. He and his brother started running away towards Estonia where he met my great grandma. Eventually they ended up in Yugoslavia while planning to run away to Greece. They liked the language, it reminded them of home yet it was far away enough from Russia. And that's the story of my family

My great great grandfather was in the cossack division as well. He only told my grandma little about it.
