We Shall Not Be Moved
The Seekers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I'm on my way to heaven
We shall not be moved
On my way to heaven
We shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's standing by the water side
We shall not be moved

We shall not we shall not be moved
We shall not we shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's standing by the water side
We shall not be moved

On the road to freedom

We shall not be moved
On the road to freedom
We shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's standing by the water side
We shall not be moved

We shall not we shall not be moved
We shall not we shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's standing by the water side
We shall not be moved

We're brothers together
We shall not be moved
We're brothers together
We shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's standing by the water side
We shall not be moved

We shall not we shall not be moved
We shall not we shall not be moved

Just like a tree that's standing by the water side
We shall not be moved

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Seekers' song "We Shall Not Be Moved" bring to mind the great struggle for freedom – political, social, and personal – that has been a common thread throughout human history. The opening lines, "Well I'm on my way to heaven, we shall not be moved" speak to the resolve and determination of those who believe in a cause greater than themselves. It suggests that they have a destination, a goal to reach, and an unwavering determination to achieve it.

The repeated chorus, "We shall not we shall not be moved, just like a tree that's standing by the water side, we shall not be moved," serves as a metaphor for the resilience and strength of human nature. The imagery of a tree, firmly rooted in the ground, standing steadfast in the face of adversity, is a powerful reminder that we too can be unyielding and unbending when facing obstacles on the road to our own personal freedom.

The final verses, "We're brothers together, we shall not be moved, just like a tree that's standing by the water side, we shall not be moved," highlight the importance of unity and cohesion. It suggests that even though we may come from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs, our shared commitment to a cause greater than ourselves unites us, strengthens us and underlines our resolve to carry on despite the odds stacked against us.

Overall, "We Shall Not Be Moved" is a song that offers hope, encouragement, and inspiration to anyone who is facing a challenge or struggles to overcome their circumstances. It is a call to action that urges us to stand strong and remain firm in the pursuit of our goals, just like a tree standing by the water side.

Thanks for these videos. Uplifting now in 2021 and even more inspiring to me than when I was a teen. Their voices are so different but God allows them to blend together as one. Just as God wants us to be different but unite together to sing praises to Him. Blessings to all involved with this video..

oh God, why all this preaching, its just a bloody song by a pop group. Jesus has nothing to do with it. What kind of God wants us all to sit around and praise him. You need to study up on your theology.
